Description

SUMMARY: The Lumber Shipper is responsible for putting together loads of lumber for delivery, assisting customers in the picking and loading/unloading of material. They are required to check loads, fill out paperwork, and perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks to ensure safety standards in the yard are upheld.

POSITION: LUMBER SHIPPER

DEPARTMENT: Morse Lumber Shipping Dept.

REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor

HOURS: M-F, 7:30AM-4:00PM, occasional overtime on Saturdays

WORK AUTHORIZATION: US Person (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows paperwork to pull loads of lumber and prepare it for shipping.
  • Unloads incoming trucks.
  • Monitors and rotates stock to ensure stock levels are adequate.
  • Works to ensure paperwork is always accurate.
  • Compares items pulled & loaded to order paperwork to ensure accuracy.
  • Operates saws to cut lumber for customer orders.
  • Uses various tools and packaging supplies (banding) to secure customer loads.
  • Operates forklifts and other power equipment.
  • Assists drivers in deliveries and returns.
  • Works to maintain an accurate inventory.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs daily clean-up to ensure yard safety.
  • Performs yard and building maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a forklift.
  • Physically demanding job that requires being able to sit and stand for duration of shift.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Employee must be reliable, punctual, and safety-minded, with a strong work ethic.
  • It is also important that you display a positive, helpful demeanor, and a commitment to providing the best in customer service.
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years' experience preferred with building materials and operating a forklift.

SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
