Job description

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our Edson division in Edson, Alberta, is recruiting for a Maintenance Supervisor – Lumber Mill.

We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance team in a fast-paced lumber mill environment. This hands-on leadership role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all mill equipment and facilities. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, strong problem-solver, and effective people leader with a passion for teamwork, reliability, and continuous improvement. 

The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and documentation skills, be self-directed, cost conscious and be confident in their decision-making abilities. 

You'll do:

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure all maintenance activities comply with mill standards, Lockout/Tagout procedures, Safe Work Practices, and regulatory requirement
  • Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and incident investigations 
  • Lead and develop a skilled maintenance team through coaching, clear expectations, and performance accountability 
  • Coordinate daily work assignments and respond to changing priorities to meet business needs 
  • Plan, prioritize, and execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs to achieve uptime and reliability targets 
  • Utilize CMMS systems to manage work orders, preventive maintenance, asset history, and documentation 
  • Drive a culture of reliability using root cause analysis, gap analysis, and long-term corrective actions 
  • Collaborate with Operations, Reliability, Planning, Quality, Procurement, and Project teams to support mill objectives 
  • Manage department budgets and control maintenance costs to achieve competitive manufacturing unit costs 
  • Promote continuous improvement and ownership of plant performance 

                     You have:  

                    • Certified Millwright or recognized trade certification with 5+ years of industrial experience 
                    • Minimum 2-3 years of maintenance supervisory experience in an industrial or lumber mill environment 
                    • Strong mechanical maintenance knowledge 
                    • Proven experience with reliability-centered maintenance programs (preventative and predictive maintenance) 
                    • Proficient with CMMS systems and Microsoft Office tools 
                    • Demonstrated leadership, change management, and continuous improvement mindset 
                    • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem solving
                    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
