As a lodging manager, you work for a hotel, resort, or another type of establishment and help ensure guests on vacation or business travel enjoy a pleasant stay. Your job duties include providing guest services, coordinating activities, and resolving any issues that arise. You also monitor staff performance, ensure that company standards for guest experience are met, and oversee hotel profits and budgeting. The career typically requires postsecondary education in hotel management or hospitality, such as a bachelor’s degree, certificate program, or an associate degree. Some lodging managers enter the profession with a high school diploma or GED certificate and extensive experience working in a hotel. Additional qualifications include strong customer service, managerial, and problem-solving skills, along with knowledge of accounting and marketing.
