A career as a lodging manager generally requires a mix of formal education and hotel experience. At a minimum, you need an associate degree in hospitality, business management, or a similar field. You also need at least one or two years of experience in a management role or another hotel position. Some companies train the right candidates who show excellent leadership skills, a willingness to learn new job duties, and outstanding customer service skills. You also need to be proficient with computers, understand financial management, and have some knowledge of food service management. A hotel and lodging certification is also among the desired qualifications of many employers.
