What is a literacy intervention specialist?

A literacy intervention specialist is an educator trained to help students who are struggling with reading and writing skills. They assess students' literacy levels, develop targeted instructional plans, and provide one-on-one or small group support to improve language proficiency. How do literacy intervention specialists typically collaborate with classroom teachers to support student progress?

Literacy intervention specialists work closely with classroom teachers by sharing assessment data, co-developing targeted lesson plans, and regularly discussing student progress. They may join team meetings to align instructional strategies and ensure that students receive consistent support in both intervention and general classroom settings. Open communication and a collaborative approach are key, as specialists often provide resources, model effective techniques, and offer feedback to help classroom teachers reinforce literacy skills throughout the curriculum.
