Research Services Manager - Central Library

The Research Services Manager provides leadership and strategic direction for the department and the library's research and educational offerings to all of Tulsa County. Research Services is a part of the Federal Depository Library Program, which provides unique historical and current government documents, and the Funding Information Network (Candid), which provides nonprofits with fundraising guidance and expertise. Research also includes the Oklahoma Room, which houses a specialized collection of books, newspaper clippings, and academic materials about Oklahoma history and culture. The Research Services Manager works closely with the Central Library Manager and other Central Library Managers to oversee the operation of public services at Central Library.
Key responsibilities and qualifications include:
  • Supervises, trains, develops and evaluates a high-performance team including five subject specialist librarians organized to support TCCL's strategic plan.
  • Works with Central Library Manager in interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • Provides quality service to customers through own and team member's efforts including defining individual responsibilities, scheduling, determining priorities and deadlines, training staff, and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of their work.
  • Oversees several research special collections and partnerships, including the Federal Depository Library Program and Candid Nonprofit Network, and their related services and programs.
  • Researches and develops opportunities to serve the community and effectively manages change when developing new programs.
  • Serves as administrator for research programs and initiatives, including virtual services.
  • Assists in preparation and administration of the department's annual budget.
  • Oversees maintenance of Central Library's research collections, including evaluation, selection, weeding and budget preparation.
  • Oversees research projects to meet library leadership and administrative needs.
  • Proven ability to interact diplomatically with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage change effectively.
  • Exhibits strong critical thinking skills and exercises good judgement.
  • Exhibits a growth mindset to think strategically about how the department evolves and serves the community.
  • Knowledge of research services and collection and experience providing library instruction.
  • Thorough knowledge of library systems, procedures, policies, functions, including reference and research techniques and behaviors.

Education & Experience:
  • Master of Library and Information Studies Degree required.
  • Three or more years' experience in a public, academic, or school library required.
  • One year of managerial experience leading a team of degreed professionals required.
  • Or equivalent combination of technical training, education or experience.

Location: Central Library
Starting salary range: $5,550.00 - $6,933.00 / month
Status: Full Time, Exempt
Schedule:
Monday 8 am - 5 pm
Tuesday 12 pm - 9 pm
Wednesday 8 am - 5 pm
Thursday 8 am - 5 pm
Friday 8 am - 5 pm
Rotating Saturdays and Sundays

Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions
Work occasionally requires stooping and bending. Occasional light lifting such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.
There are usually no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions.
Some positions require considerable physical exertion, such as regularly lifting heavy items (up to 80 pounds) such as carts or crates full of books, on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions.
