WHO WE ARE


The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established in 1999 as an international independent agency to lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping-free sport. As the global regulatory body, WADA's primary role is to develop, harmonize and coordinate anti-doping rules and policies across all sports and countries. Our key activities include: scientific and social science research; education; intelligence & investigations; development of anti-doping capacity; and, monitoring of compliance with the World Anti-Doping Program.


POSITION OVERVIEW


WADA is currently seeking a legal counsel with initiative and drive, who can effectively handlea high volume ofvaried and complex legal work relating to results management, including the review of doping cases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the evolving needs of a fast-paced and growing organization, bringing pragmatic solutions, best practices, and strategies for managing legal risks.

The candidate is also to provide reliable, accurate, timely and well-informed advice and guidance to all WADA departments and WADA Management regarding legal issues and potential legal implications of various anti-doping projects and initiatives.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


      • Lead certain areas of activity in results management in relation to athlete whereabouts and atypical findings and identify strategies to further optimize work in these areas;
      • Monitor trends in anti-doping litigation worldwide;
      • Provide legal advice to stakeholders, colleagues, and the Legal Affairs team;
      • Support WADA external counsels in litigation, both before state and sport courts;
      • Assist in investigations where required;
      • Participate in, and present at, various internal and external meetings, events and conferences, where relevant;
      • Draft and review WADA legal documents (rules, regulations, models of best practice, guidelines, etc.);
      • Produce reports and other legal documents as required.

      MAIN CHALLENGES


      • Ability to independently organize and prioritize work, and to liaise with external and external stakeholders as needed;
      • Manage of volume of complex legal matters within a short timeframe.


      QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

      • Qualified lawyer, with a minimum of three years' experience in a legal environment;
      • Experience in sports law and anti-doping legal framework, a definite asset;
      • Ability to adapt rapidly to a changing environment;
      • Ability to engage internal and external stakeholders to meet deadlines and escalate issues appropriately;
      • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in a diverse and international environment;
      • Excellent oral and written skills in one of the two WADA official languages;(English/French) and very good command of the other official language; knowledge of Spanish, or another language, would be an asset;
      • Periodic work in the evening or on weekends;
      • Travel maybe required;

      APERCU DU POSTE

      L'AMA recherche actuellement un conseiller juridique engage et motive, capable de gerer efficacement un volume eleve de travaux juridiques varies et complexes lies a la gestion des resultats, y compris l'examen des affaires de dopage.

      Le candidat retenu sera responsable de soutenir les besoins evolutifs d'une organisation dynamique et en pleine croissance, apportant des solutions pragmatiques, des bonnes pratiques et des strategies pour gerer les risques juridiques.

      Le candidat doit egalement fournir des conseils et des orientations fiables, precis, opportuns et bien informes a tous les departements de l'AMA et a la direction de l'AMA concernant les questions juridiques et les implications juridiques potentielles de divers projets et initiatives antidopage.


      LES RESPONSABILITES CLES


        • Diriger certains aspects de la gestion des resultats lies a la localisation des athletes et aux resultats atypiques, et identifier des strategies pour optimiser le travail dans ces domaines;
        • Suivre les tendances des litiges antidopage dans le monde entier;
        • Fournir des conseils juridiques aux parties prenantes, collegues et a l'equipe des affaires juridiques;
        • Apporter un soutien aux avocats externes de l'AMA dans les litiges, tant devant les tribunaux d'Etat que devant les tribunaux sportifs;
        • Assister aux enquetes lorsque cela est necessaire;
        • Participer et presenter des exposes lors de diverses reunions, evenements et conferences internes et externes, le cas echeant;
        • Rediger et examiner les documents juridiques de l'AMA (regles, reglements, modeles de bonnes pratiques, directives, etc.);
        • Produire des rapports et autres documents juridiques selon les besoins.


        PRINCIPAUX DEFIS


        • Capacite a organiser et hierarchiser le travail de maniere independante, ainsi qu'a etablir des liens avec les parties prenantes externes et externes selon les besoins;
        • Gerer le volume de questions juridiques complexes en peu de temps.


        LES QUALIFICATIONS ET LES COMPETENCES


          • Avocat diplome, avec au moins trois ans d'experience dans un environnement juridique;
          • Une experience en droit du sport et reglementation antidopage constitue un atout majeur;
          • Capacite d'adaptation rapide a un environnement en constante evolution;
          • Capacite a impliquer les parties prenantes internes et externes pour respecter les delais et signaler les problemes de maniere appropriee;
          • Excellentes competences interpersonnelles et capacite a collaborer dans un environnement diversifie et international;
          • Excellentes competences orales et ecrites dans l'une des deux langues officielles de l'AMA ; (anglais/francais) et une tres bonne maitrise de l'autre langue officielle ; la connaissance de l'espagnol, ou d'une autre langue, serait un atout;
