Build your future with us

Our Legal-Litigation department seeks a managing attorney for our Indianapolis staff counsel litigation office to cover the Indianapolis Metropolitan territory. This role is ideal for a seasoned insurance defense trial lawyer who enjoys leading and developing a team while maintaining a hands on personal and commercial litigation practice focused on auto, premises liability, products liability and other complex tort matters.

  

Starting salary: The pay range for this position is $160,000 - $190,000 annually.  Pay is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities.  Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance. 

Be ready to:

  • represent the company and its policyholders in civil litigation, including first and third party insurance defense matters, in state and federal courts

  • handle all phases of litigation, including case evaluation, written discovery, depositions, dispositive motions, mediation, settlement negotiations and jury trials

  • provide strategic legal advice on risk management and exposure analysis for personal and commercial lines

  • manage, mentor and develop a staff counsel legal office of associate attorneys and support staff, including performance management, workload allocation, file strategy and professional development

  • partner with claims, underwriting and other business units to proactively resolve complex liability issues and support office operations and process improvements


 

Be equipped with:

  • a valid Indiana law license

  • a minimum of 10 years of experience as a civil litigation attorney, including first chair and/or significant second chair jury trial experience

  • experience in insurance defense litigation, including defending individuals, businesses and contractors in personal and commercial insurance cases involving, auto, premises liability, products liability, proper damage, and bodily injury disputes.

  • demonstrated experience managing a litigation docket from intake through trial and appeal, with strong motion practice

  • desire to lead, manage and grow a small legal office of litigation attorneys and support staff, including coaching, mentoring and developing associate attorneys

  • prior management, team lead or supervising attorney experience in a law firm, staff counsel or corporate legal department setting (preferred)
