Job description

The Instructional Design Assistant fulfills the needs of the Course Design Team with many tasks associates with the LMS system Blackboard. This position supports the course design team and system configuration of the platform. The candidate will need strong leadership skills and drive.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Works with the Director/Associate of the Learning Management System to maintain the LMS along with any systems or API's that are integrated with the LMS.
  • Tier 2 support services for the University's learning management system, and its integrated technologies (e.g., LMS, Kaltura, Publishers, Tutor.com, etc.).
  • Provides technical support for all other software associated with the LMS like Pyramid.
  • Performs quality assurance tests and improvement of the data integration with the university's student information system (Anthology Student), or Pyramid.
  • Assists leadership in discovering and evaluating new and updated learning tools for academics.
  • Interact with vendors, follow up, and communicate potential resolutions to staff or supported populations through appropriate tracking systems (e.g., email, ServiceNow).
  • Generates and documents scripts executed for enrollment management, archiving, and other operational needs in the learning management system.
  • Within assigned projects, adheres to university-level policies on data integrity, confidentiality, development, archiving, and installation processes across the supported learning platforms and applications.
  • Generates frequent reports and queries (e.g., via Blackboard Data, IMPACT, etc.) on learning platforms usage data for supported populations and assist leadership in usage analysis and outreach efforts.
  • Responds to project and operational calendars for deployments and evaluates the impacts of frequent releases of supported learning platforms on supported populations.
  • Contributes to the team's internal departmental procedures, public knowledgebase articles, and training to supported populations in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 2 years' experience in information technology. Any relevant education, certifications, and/or work experience may be considered.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), web browsers, and basic computer troubleshooting (Windows/Mac).

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Experience with REST APIs a plus. (authentication, endpoints, pagination, error handling).
  • LTI 1.1 & LTI 1.3 experience (Advantage)
  • Working Publishers (Cengage, McGraw-Hill, Pearson, etc.)
  • Video platform knowledge. e.g., Kaltura, Yuja, or Panopto
  • SIS to LMS integration knowledge
  • Identity systems (SSO, SAML, Azure AD / LDAP concepts)
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Must know about various operating systems, web browsing and enhancement tools, utilities, and applications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Understanding audio and video technology and basic editing using Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, or similar tools.
