OVERVIEW

The Operations Training Managerย is responsible forย leading/supervising a team of three Operations Trainers in the creation, coordination, deployment, and assessment of technical and operational training across the site to build employee competency and capability. Possessing a broad background in manufacturing operations, the role coaches the Operations Trainers and the production line/area-based trainers to deliver on-the-job training (OJT) to new employees, as well asย developsย and continually refines training content for production employees. This role spendsย significant timeย engaged with our production floor operators/supervisors and departmental trainers toย ensureย standardization of training and identification of improvement opportunities.ย This role sits within theย Operations Trainingย team and isย alsoย responsible for using Lean Manufacturing tools to drive sustained improvements.ย 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of three Operations Trainers.ย 

  • Coordinate efforts with otherย Operations Training Managersย to ensure standard practices are followed across all sites.ย 

  • Partner with Operational Managers to design,ย develop and support theย delivery and evaluation of technical training programs for the Refinery.ย 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop andย maintainย standardized work instructions.ย 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to create interactive, accessible training in multiple formats including written SOPs, PowerPoint with photos and annotations, and video with annotations that achieve a consistent delivery of information.ย 

  • Deliver "Train the Trainer" courses and provide on-going coaching support to operators and job coaches providing OJT to new employees.ย 

  • Maintain skill matrix and recertification timeline.ย 

  • Coordinate with Department leadership to createย trainingย scheduleย by area.ย 

  • Track agreed Training KPIs for the site.ย 

  • Support Continuous Improvement projects by providing guidance on process standardization to help sustain improvements.ย 

  • Audit and spot-check work instructions and training materials, correcting compliance gaps asย identified.ย 

  • In partnership withย HR,ย Continuous Improvement and Learning & Development, ensure consistency of application of training across the business andย maintainย alignment with corporate learning strategy.ย 

  • Support operational goals byย identifyingย and addressing training gaps.ย 

  • Assistย with the implementation of CAPEX projects in relation to timetables of training,ย familiarizationย and learning curves. This could requireย travelย to the equipment manufacturer for training and the capture of training materials.ย 

  • Promote common Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S and Short Interval Control.ย 

  • Drive Continuous Improvement in all Technical Learning & Development processes.ย 

  • Use and support end usersย as a Subject Matter Expertย of the company's Learning Management System (SuccessFactors).ย 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experienceย required, particularly in a food processing,ย packagingย or maintenance role.ย 

  • At least 4 years in a Learning and Development role strongly preferred.ย 

  • 2+ years of Manufacturing Supervisory/Leadership experienceย required.ย 

  • Working knowledge of common training methods and adult learning theory.ย 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS degree preferred.ย 

  • Experience developing operational training in a refining/food manufacturing environmentย required.ย 

  • Sixย Sigmaย backgroundย preferred.ย 

  • Instructional Design experience preferred.ย 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Relevant industry experience.ย 

  • Understanding ofย Lean Manufacturing principles.ย 

  • Good understanding of relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations.ย 

  • Detailed experience or relevant work processes and safe use of equipment.ย 

  • Strong relationship building and excellent written/verbal communication skills.ย 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and succeed in a demanding environment.ย 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel,ย PowerPointย and Outlook.ย 

  • Knowledge of Training Within Industry (TWI) methodologies, including Job Instruction (JI), Job Breakdown Sheets, and standardized work practices.ย

SALARY PAY RANGE:ย 

$94,000 - $174,000 plus bonus.

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.ย
