Description

Position Purpose: To assist with the implementation of programming for the group assigned.ย  Assist with monitoring each child's participation.ย  Consult Lead Teacher and adjust programming to maximize enjoyment for children.ย  Communicate regularly with families to exchange information about the child.ย  Communicate with Lead Teacher, Site Director and co-workers to ensure efficient delivery of services.ย

Essentialย  Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide competent supervisor and daily care to all children in your assigned classroom
  • Assist with the implementation of activities and experiences within the group.ย  Offer assessment information regarding the planned programming as requested.ย ย 
  • Use a variety of techniques when conducting activities including modeling, observing, demonstrating, open-ended questioning and reinforcement.
  • Ensure that all activities offered are carried out in a safe, efficient, and motivating manner.
  • Provide positive guidance to children that include positive language, positive reinforcement and redirecting.ย 
  • Consult with Lead Teacher and supervisors when necessary to ensure behavior plan is adhered to and follow through is completed.
  • Be prepared with alternate activity from the plan book or games book when planned activity does not work out or when conditions prohibit follow through (weather, for example).ย  Flexibility with all activities is essential.
  • Assist with keeping classroom clean, neat, organized and inviting to children and families.
  • Use appropriate language and tone when talking with the children.
  • Promotes self-esteem while encouraging self-help skills.
  • Show warmth and affection for all children in the group.
  • Promote the daily exchange of information about children's activities to families.
  • Maintains confidentiality when discussing issues relating to any child.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of a cooperative team approach.
  • Participate in workshops/trainings as appropriate.ย  (Annual requirement of 30 hours of training is prorated for seasonal employees but full compliance is recommended for all.
  • Stay current with Generations policies, OCFS regulations, National Accreditation guidelines and other pertinent regulations (CACFP, Health Department, etc.).
  • Daily in person contact with families, co-workers and supervisors to exchange information related to care and development of children in your care.
  • Written correspondence to implement programming, record accidents, illnesses, medication administration and any other pertinent information

Requirements

Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Child Development Associate (CDA) or willing to complete the CDA within first year of employment.

Certification: Foundations in Health and Safety Certificate; or a willingness to complete the training within the first week of hire.

Experience:ย 1 year of experience working with children. Basic knowledge of programming and regulatory environment, preferred.

Physical/Mental Abilities: Must be physically and mentally able to provide daily routine care of children. Must be able to properly supervise children by sight and sounds. Must be able to react quickly when safety concern arise in an emergency situation.

  • Flexible to varied assignments and willingness to take direction from others. ย 
  • Ability to pay attention to details and follow instructions.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications are required, or willingness to complete within the first year
