What are 'law' jobs?

Law jobs encompass a wide range of professions related to the legal system, including roles such as lawyers, paralegals, judges, legal assistants, and legal researchers. These professionals are responsible for interpreting laws, representing clients in legal matters, providing legal advice, and ensuring justice is served. Law jobs can be found in private law firms, government agencies, corporations, and non-profit organizations. The field requires strong analytical, research, and communication skills, and typically a law degree or related certification.

What type of careers are in law?

Careers in law include roles such as attorneys, judges, legal analysts, paralegals, and legal assistants. What Are the Qualifications to Get a Job in Law?

The qualifications to get a job in law vary considerably. To work in law enforcement, you typically need a high school diploma or GED certificate and need to complete academy training. Advancement comes with years of experience or by returning to study criminal justice or a closely related field. Lawyers, law professors, and legal scholars need to complete law school, and scholars often have a Ph.D. in history or law as well. It is common for lawmakers to have a law degree, but many legislators come from different backgrounds, such as medicine, business, public policy, or community advocacy. Important skills include strong analytical thinking and interpersonal communication.

What are common challenges new lawyers face when transitioning from law school to practicing in a firm or organization?

New lawyers often find the transition from law school to practice challenging due to the shift from academic theory to real-world application. They must quickly adapt to managing multiple cases, meeting tight deadlines, and navigating complex client relationships. Additionally, understanding firm protocols, billing practices, and courtroom procedures can require significant on-the-job learning. Mentorship and proactive communication with colleagues are key to overcoming these challenges and building confidence in the role.

Job description

Wheeler Law PLLC is growing, and weโ€™re looking for a compassionate, experienced, and motivated Family Law Attorney to join our dynamic team. Our firm represents clients in divorce, child custody, child support, protective orders, modifications, and related family law mattersโ€”with a strong emphasis on client-centered, culturally-competent advocacy.

We are seeking an attorney with at least 5+ years of family law experience who can handle their own caseload, communicate effectively with clients, and work collaboratively with our litigation and support team. Spanish proficiency is strongly preferred due to our diverse client base.

Compensation:

$130,000 - $150,000 yearly

Responsibilities:
  • Independently manage a full caseload of complex family law matters, including high-asset divorces, contested custody disputes, business valuations, and property division involving significant assets.
  • Represent clients in all stages of litigation, including temporary orders hearings, evidentiary hearings, settlement conferences, mediations, and trials.
  • Analyze, identify, and strategically address complex financial issues such as closely held businesses, professional practices, real property portfolios, investment accounts, retirement assets, stock options, and trusts.
  • Work closely with financial experts, forensic accountants, appraisers, and valuation professionals to develop a case strategy and effectively present evidence.
  • Draft and review sophisticated pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, settlement agreements, parenting plans, and decrees with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Conduct and defend depositions, including those involving financial experts and opposing parties in high-net-worth matters.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to clients, balancing legal advocacy with practical, cost-effective solutions tailored to each clientโ€™s goals.
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and mediation with opposing counsel in a professional and solution-oriented manner, while being fully prepared to litigate when necessary.
  • Maintain consistent, clear, and compassionate communication with clients throughout the case lifecycle.
  • Ensure compliance with all court rules, deadlines, and ethical obligations.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership, paralegals, and support staff to maintain efficient case management and uphold firm standards.
  • Contribute to the growth and reputation of the family law practice through professionalism, strong advocacy, and client service.

Qualifications:
  • Great negotiation and communication skills, particularly in stressful and emotional situations
  • Active Member of the Arizona State Bar.
  • At least 5+ years of experience working in a law firm on family law issues.

About Company

We are a small law firm in its fifth year of practice. We find creative solutions to break down the barriers keeping members of our community from moving forward with their lives. We are dedicated to providing effective, efficient, and compassionate legal representation to all clients.

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday.
  • Base salary plus competitive performance-based compensation.
  • Benefits: Health insurance, Paid Time Off, and a retirement plan.
  • Supportive, growth-oriented team environment.
  • Comprehensive training and continuous professional development.
  • Meaningful work that directly impacts individuals and communities.
