Job Summary:
The Seasonal Streets Laborer performs a variety of manual labor and maintenance activities in support of the City's street and right-of-way operations. This position assists with street maintenance, traffic control, asphalt and concrete repairs, vegetation management, litter and debris removal, and other seasonal Public Works activities. The Seasonal Streets Laborer works as part of a team to maintain safe, clean, and functional public infrastructure while providing excellent service to the community.
Experience, Education, and Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in construction, landscaping, public works, maintenance, or related manual labor.
- Experience operating hand tools, power tools, or light equipment.
- Experience working around traffic control or construction zones.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform manual labor in support of street, alley, sidewalk, and right-of-way maintenance activities.
- Assist with asphalt patching, pothole repair, crack sealing, concrete repairs, and related maintenance projects.
- Perform litter and debris removal, vegetation management, weed control, tree trimming, graffiti removal, and homeless cleanup activities.
- Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices, barricades, cones, and signage to ensure safe work zones.
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from work sites.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with snow and ice operations, including sidewalk clearing and other seasonal maintenance activities as assigned.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment, vehicles, tools, and work areas.
- Follow established safety procedures, traffic control requirements, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Respond to emergency situations, severe weather events, and other operational needs as assigned.
- Provide courteous customer service when interacting with residents and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
- Work is performed primarily outdoors across a variety of municipal environments, including roadways, detention ponds, and construction sites, with occasional indoor tasks at maintenance shops.
- Routinely exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice.
- The role involves proximity to and operation of heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes and snowplows with exposure to loud noise, vibrations, moving machinery, dust, fumes, road and organic debris. and potentially hazardous materials.
- Duties include working in and around live traffic, construction zones, and active stormwater infrastructure requiring the use of appropriate PPE and traffic control practices.
- Stormwater operations may require working near standing water, biological hazards, or contaminated materials, with safety protocols in place.
- Work may involve navigating uneven terrain, confined spaces, and elevated surfaces, including manholes, culverts, embankments, at heights (such as on rooftops, ladders, or scaffolding).
- May involve extended shifts and irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts as part of an on-call rotation.
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility: Ability to walk, stand, or work on uneven terrain for extended periods. Frequently climb ladders, steps, and equipment; enter and exit vehicles and equipment regularly.
- Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds occasionally, with or without assistance as needed.
- Endurance: Ability to perform sustained physical labor in outdoor environments for extended periods (8-12 hours), including during inclement weather and emergency response.
- Dexterity: Sufficient manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and vehicle controls with precision and safety. Ability to complete fine motor tasks.
- Flexibility: Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead and below waist level, and maintain awkward positions when performing work tasks.
- Vision and Hearing: Adequate visual acuity to read instruments, inspect work areas and monitor traffic and jobsite conditions. Ability to monitor surroundings and equipment operation. Ability to hear warning signals, verbal instructions, and equipment sounds in noisy environments.
