Job Description

This position secures vehicles on carriers for safe transport by correctly positioning automobiles, installing and removing chocks and straps, and following all safety procedures in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

  • Place and remove chocks on each vehicle wheel to ensure secure positioning on the carrier.
  • Position automobiles precisely within carriers according to operational guidelines.
  • Install, tighten, and secure straps on vehicles in the carrier to prevent movement during transport.
  • Remove chocks and straps from vehicles upon arrival at the terminal in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Wear and correctly use all required personal protective equipment while performing duties.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety at all times and follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Work from written assignment sheets and accurately sign off work completed on printed forms.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals and follow written instructions.
  • Respond to requests for service and assistance in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and safety.
  • Handle basic problem-solving situations involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle information with discretion.
  • Demonstrate initiative and decisiveness, and contribute positively to team performance.

Work Environment

This role is primarily outdoors and involves working around moving mechanical parts, trains, and vehicle carriers in varying weather conditions. You will regularly stand or walk, use your hands to handle tools and equipment, and reach with your arms throughout the shift. The position requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as regular lifting and moving of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 80 pounds. The noise level is usually moderate, and there may be occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The shift runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 5–6 days per week, with work required every weekend and 1–2 days off during the week. You must be willing to work in all weather conditions, adjust to various hours to accommodate train arrivals and departures, and occasionally work odd hours or split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends. The role requires the ability to work alone and unsupervised while consistently using required personal protective equipment and following all safety procedures.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
