What You'll Do

The Laboratory Assistant provides support for the department including ordering, receiving and distribution of laboratory materials. This position has access to confidential financial and patient information. It does not have patient care or access to funds. Specific duties are as follows but not limited to: Lab Assistant - Inventory: Inventory management for assigned departments, Storeroom organization and maintenance, pristine record keeping for ordering information and validation of received materials, development and maintaining an accurate PAR level for inventory; Lab Assistant - Core Laboratory: hourly rounding for specimen retrieval and delivery to appropriate departments, Quality Assurance documentation for rejected specimens, manual instrument loading and unloading of specimens, manual storage of specimens off-line, assistance with inventory when necessary; Lab Assistant - Microbiology: Daily specimen set-up, daily instrument maintenance of delegated instrumentation, daily temperature monitoring and bench cleaning, DI water monthly spore checks, CO2 tank replenishing and discarding, waived instrument testing, and TB processing; Lab Assistant - Histo/Path: Accessioning, printing and distributing specimen cassettes, filing slides and cassettes, assisting the Pathologists on procedures, changing tissue processor and stainer fluids, waste disposal, monitoring of morgue temperature and negative pressure. The Histology Lab Assistants will rotate job duties on a weekly basis as assigned.

  • Required Educational Degree: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred Experience: Laboratory experience or materials management experience preferred

  •  Demonstrated good organizational skills. 
  • Good basic math skills.
  •  Demonstrated ability to understand and properly deal with potential health hazards and dangers such as toxic, caustic, and biohazardous materials. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal savvy and relates well to all kinds of people - builds appropriate rapport; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact.
