About the role

Laboratory Manager (CES - Mgr, Lab)

The Lab Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance programs for sampling of products and wastes processed through Reworld facilities. This role ensures regulatory compliance, production quality, and operational efficiency while supporting Reworld's policies, goals, and objectives. As a key member of the facility operations team, the Lab Manager is accountable for maintaining high-quality standards and fostering a safe, inclusive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversight & Operations

Oversee Avon and Avon Lake, OH laboratories.

Ensure laboratory operations effectively support sales and facility operations.

Communicate regularly with transportation teams to maintain strong interdepartmental relationships.

Attend KPI and leadership meetings and present laboratory performance and compliance status.

Participate in customer meetings to support project work as required.

Quality, Compliance & Performance

Uphold compliance requirements through accurate and timely analytical support.

Construct, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to demonstrate performance and compliance.

Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).

Manage laboratory instrumentation needs and ensure proper support and functionality.

Manage laboratory footprints (layout, space planning, and mechanical considerations) to support current operations and future growth.

Provide reports on progress and performance as required by local management.

Safety & Training

Lead weekly safety meetings and provide daily safety topics/reminders to site teams.

Enforce all required safety training in accordance with company policies.

Promote and maintain a culture of zero incidents through leadership and accountability.

Complete and maintain the following certifications:

o IATA training and certification (self) and identify 1-2 additional team members to obtain certification.

o HAZWOPER initial certification and required refreshers.

o HAZMAT initial certification and required refreshers.

Ensure all employees are trained to perform work safely and in compliance with regulations and SOP's.

People Leadership & Talent Development

Promote cross-site coverage for PTO and emergency project support.

Share talent across sites to maximize team effectiveness and flexibility.

Interview candidates and participate in hiring decisions.

Foster training programs for incoming talent.

Promote career growth and development for team members..

Identify:

o One to two individuals capable of stepping into the Lab Manager role in the future.

o At least one laboratory technician per site with potential to grow into a lead role.

Manage performance and goal setting for direct reports.

Foster a high-performing culture built on clear expectations, accountability, and trust.

Demonstrate leadership behaviors aligned with Reworld Values, including:

Position Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED (required).

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant laboratory experience.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a process laboratory or industrial laboratory environment.

Exceptional ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to work effectively with laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

Demonstrated ability to develop staff, resolve conflict, and lead teams.

Ability to model and support Reworld Values and Behaviors.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb as required.

Frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Work near operating mechanical parts and mobile equipment.

Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.

Ability to wear required PPE for assigned tasks.

Ability to qualify for and wear a full-face respirator.

Pay Transparency

Reworld is committed to paying its staff equitably, and we strive to provide competitive compensation and benefits packages. The range below reflects Reworld's reasonable estimate of base pay for this role based on primary posting location. It is expected that most qualified candidates in this location will fall within the posting range. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future.

The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $79,300.00 - $105,600.00 USD. For hourly roles, this is the annualized salary. To calculate the hourly rate, divide by 2080.
