Microbiology Laboratory Technician (Contract)

Location: New Albany, OH

Duration: Minimum 3-month contract (project-based, with potential for extension)

Start Date: ASAP (as early as this Wednesday)

Schedule: 1st Shift (potential for overtime)

Pay Rate: $21–26/hour

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a Microbiology Laboratory Technician to support a large-scale water systems validation project at their New Albany, Ohio facility. This role will perform microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, and validation activities in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment while ensuring product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline, a solid foundation in microbiology laboratory practices, and strong documentation skills. Experience supporting validation activities and pharmaceutical or manufacturing water systems is highly preferred.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting a critical validation initiative with a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological testing, including bioburden and enrichment testing of raw materials.

  • Conduct environmental monitoring, including air, surface, and water sampling.

  • Support water system validation activities through microbiological testing and documentation.

  • Assist with method suitability testing and preservative efficacy testing (PET).

  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and ensure compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor laboratory equipment, perform routine checks, and support preventative maintenance activities.

  • Assist with investigations related to Out of Specification (OOS) and Out of Trend (OOT) results.

  • Prepare microbiological media and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment.

  • Participate in laboratory audits, sanitation inspections, and environmental monitoring programs.

  • Support new product introductions, method transfers, validation projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain laboratory inventory and assist with training new laboratory personnel as needed.

  • Help ensure the microbiology laboratory remains inspection-ready at all times.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.

  • Basic understanding of microbiology laboratory techniques and aseptic practices.

  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory or GMP environment is preferred.

  • Experience supporting laboratory validation activities is preferred.

  • Experience working with pharmaceutical or manufacturing water systems is highly preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and documentation.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
