Job description

Lab Technician- Printmaking, PT

SUMMARY

The Lab Technician for Printmaking is responsible for facilitating and maintaining all equipment and tools in the lab. The Lab Technician orders supplies, oversees student employees, and provides assistance to all students and faculty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

    • Provide students with technical knowledge in all areas of the lab.
    • Educate students in proper tool use and safety.
    • Schedule, train on safety procedures to operate equipment and direct the work of the student employees in the printmaking lab, including equipment maintenance and cleaning of the facility.
    • Responsible for maintaining student employees schedules and accurately approving their timecards.
    • Regularly inspect the lab area and report to the supervisor on the condition of the facility and its equipment.
    • Plan for lab improvements in coordination with the supervisor to be implemented during the summer months.
    • Maintain, rebuild, and/or replace all equipment necessary for the lab.
    • Work with the supervisor of the printmaking department in ordering equipment and supplies for the lab.
    • Assist faculty during class time as needed.
    • Prepare and safely dispose of acid baths.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Very high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Must be flexible with schedule and have the ability to work some evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Broad knowledge of printmaking.
  • Basic computer skills, such as an understanding of Microsoft Word and ability to use email.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • B.F.A. preferred, or High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years printmaking experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to

stand, talk and hear.

  • The employee frequently is required to handle, feel, and reach with hands

and arms.

The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance; color vision,

peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud, depending on lab operations. Hearing protection may be advisable at times.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
