Purpose
Provides operational support across four specialized print studios, including Serigraphy, Intaglio and Relief, Lithography, and the Riso Room. This position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and safe operation of studio equipment, management of inventory and budgetary resources. This position assists with the supervision of student workers.
Responsibilities:
Lab Management:
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies; coordinate ordering, receiving, and restocking of materials. Responsible for maintaining an organized and functional studio environment to support teaching and learning.
  • Responsible for developing and documenting standard operating procedures for equipment and lab processes to ensure efficient use of shared facilities and equipment. Communicate policies, procedures, expectations, and updates clearly to students, staff, and faculty.
  • Provide operational support to the Painting Area including ordering supplies and coordinating Graduate TA Monitor support.

Student Support:
  • Assist in the supervision of graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) during monitor hours and student employees, including scheduling, task delegation, and performance monitoring.
  • Schedule and monitor open lab hours to support student walk-ins and questions.
  • Provide one-on-one technical assistance to undergraduate and graduate students in support of techniques taught in their classes as needed.

Lab Safety:
  • Maintain a safe lab environment for both Print and Painting, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, specifically paint rags; maintain accurate and up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS) records. Provide comprehensive safety training for all lab users; enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with university and environmental regulations.
  • Work with faculty, department staff and vendors to execute maintenance, repair, installation, and organization of all equipment and furniture across Print labs. Maintain service logs and maintenance schedules for all equipment.

Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Manage and track area expenses using tools such as Microsoft Excel. Monitor and reconcile budgets, course fee accounts, the equipment budget, the paper store, and the Guest Artist in Print Program accounts.
  • Support the Guest Artist in Print Program (GAPP) by coordinating student volunteers, preparing materials and classroom spaces, ordering and tracking supplies, packaging completed projects.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • One year of experience in a Print studio.
  • Experience in the operation, daily maintenance, and repair of print lab equipment.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art and practice.

Salary
  • $39,500 (fixed rate, pro-rated 10-month position, between August 1 - May 31)

  • Work in a studio/lab environment that may be noisy or have fluctuating temperatures.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and other physical activity.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
