Client Overview:
Our client is a manufacturer and packager of high-quality personal care products spanning hair care, skin care, and health products. They are actively seeking a Microbiology Lab Tech to join their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$18/hr - $23/hr
Position Overview:
The Microbiology Lab Tech is responsible for performing all laboratory tasks and associated documentation with accuracy, consistency, and precision. This role supports quality assurance by conducting microbial testing on raw materials, in-process bulk, and finished products to ensure compliance with established standards.
Responsibilities of the Microbiology Lab Tech:
  • Conduct microbial testing on raw materials, in-process bulk, and finished product samples while adhering to established testing protocols.
  • Prepare and maintain culture media, documenting preparation details accurately and thoroughly.
  • Perform calibrations, minor preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment, including autoclaves.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of testing activities, equipment calibrations, and maintenance in electronic systems and laboratory notebooks.
  • Manage laboratory supplies inventory to ensure adequate stock levels and availability of materials.
  • Handle and dispose of culture/media waste in compliance with standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Support water quality assurance programs by performing tests such as USP 61 & 62, organism identification via gram stain and microscopy, aseptic techniques, serial dilutions, pH measurements, growth promotion, and sterility verification.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training to enhance microbiological techniques and laboratory best practices.
  • Execute additional laboratory duties as assigned to support overall operations and quality objectives.
Required Experience/Skills for the Microbiology Lab Tech:
  • Practical experience in microbiology laboratory settings beyond basic coursework, demonstrating familiarity with microbial testing procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of aseptic techniques and safe handling of biohazardous materials.
  • Understanding of cGMP documentation standards and good laboratory practices.
  • Proven ability to set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Capacity to work efficiently in a dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and tasks effectively.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while adhering to established protocols and instructions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Microbiology Lab Tech:
  • Hands-on experience with USP 61 & 62 microbial testing methodologies.
  • Background supporting water quality assurance programs and sterility testing protocols.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field is required.
