Job description

Position Summary 

At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist IV is a valuable member of our team, who will demonstrate a high degree of technical competence and knowledge in current methods and techniques.   Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence. 

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrates a high degree of technical competence in plating, isolating, analyzing and bacterial identification as assigned according to establishing departmental protocol.
  • Performs microbiology bench in a team atmosphere with the authority, responsibility, and accountability for accurate performance of lab methods.
  • Verifies accuracies of results, identifies inconsistencies and takes appropriate actions to make corrections. 
  • Operates and maintains instruments and lab equipment with occasional routine instrument maintenance as assigned per established protocol.
  • Keep accurate quality control records of all media and reagents by following established department's quality control procedure.
  • Proficient in computer/LIS protocol as assigned.
  • Be able to train CLS students, staff, pathology residents and clinical fellows.
  • Engages in continuing education.
  • Interact in a professional manner with lab staff, nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the hospital and community.
  • Adheres to all SBUH and departmental policies and protocols.
  • Perform other clinical duties as assigned. 
  • Operates and maintains instruments and lab equipment with occasional routine.

Qualifications

Required (as evidenced by an attached resume): 

SL-1: NYS licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or documented eligibility, including provisional/limited permit eligibility with demonstrated relevant experience.

Preferred: Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Microbiology, or a Life Science. Microbiology or generalist registry (or Registry Eligible) from a nationally recognized organization.  Recent Clinical Bacteriology and recent LIS experience.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). 

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $xxx - $xxx / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.  The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience.  Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

  • Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($4000)

  • Night shift differential ($000), evening shift differential ($000)

  • Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential. ($575)

  • Geographic Pay  ($000)
