Section I: Job Identification

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs and monitors complex diagnostic laboratory testing to support clinical decision-making and ensures compliance with regulatory standards,

This role applies advanced technical expertise to analyze results and maintain high-performance laboratory operations,

1,Performs high-complexity testing across assigned laboratory disciplines,

2,Interprets and validates test results prior to release,

3,Performs advanced instrument calibration and maintenance procedures,

4,Investigates abnormal or inconsistent test results and determines root cause,

5,Develops and monitors quality control and quality assurance processes,

6,Reviews and updates standard operating procedures,

Trains and mentors junior laboratory staff and students,

8,Maintains inventory and appropriate storage conditions,

9,Handles and disposes reagents, chemical, and medical waste according to institutional and regulatory safety standards,

10,Other duties and/or projects as assigned,

11,Adheres to RWJBH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior,

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree in medical laboratory science, biology, or a related field,
  • Certification by ASCP or AMT as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) preferred,
  • Preferred : 1-3 years of experience performing moderate to high complexity laboratory testing,
  • Advanced knowledge of complex laboratory testing methodologies,
  • Advanced skill in instrument calibration and maintenance,
  • Intermediate knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements,
  • Advanced ability to analyze and validate laboratory results,
  • Intermediate ability to train and mentor staff,
  • Advanced problem-solving skills for complex laboratory issues,
