 ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCES A PART-TIME OPENING IN HEALTH SCIENCE

POSITION:  Microbiology Lab Assistant (Part-Time)

Description of Duties:

Sets up laboratory and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment. Examining, culturing, and identifying microorganisms. Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment for daily operation of the laboratory. Collects, prepares, cleans, and stores glassware. Stocks and prepares media, reagents, chemical solutions, and stains. Coordinates with instructors to develop semester lab schedules. Maintain lab inventory and relay ordering needs to the administrative staff. Regular attendance is an essential function for this position. Perform other related duties as assigned. Train potential work study partners in lab maintenance procedures. Work under minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of a college microbiology course with a lab. Experiencewith computers. Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently. Moderate to heavy lifting over 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and stooping.

Desired Qualifications:

Eighteen (18) credit hours of college, including at least one (1) successfully completed Introduction to Microbiology or Clinical Microbiology course with a lab. Six months’ experience in a laboratory or related area.

Pay Rate: $12.00 per hour.

An unofficial degree conferring transcripts must be received by this office for formal consideration; however, should an offer of employment be extended, official transcripts are required.

All finalists may be subject to a background check.

Must be eligible to work in the United States.
