Job description

Position Type and FLSA Status: This employment opportunity is for a regular full time, exempt position. This position is not covered under the Service Contract Act (SCA), Davis Bacon Act (DBA), or union.

Position General Description: IEI is seeking a Junior Level Systems Engineer/Analyst to join our Approved Articles Package (AAP) Team supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division Readiness and Training Systems Department (R35). The AAP exists to establish a clear definition of COTS systems and components through the identification of properly configured (Compliant) parts and their replacements supporting proper Computer Program operation and maintenance of a Certified System.

Primary Duties: Will include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and Maintaining Approved Articles Packages (AAPs). This includes:
    • Evaluating changes to Lowest Replaceable Units (LRU) and media items to identify potential impacts to OEs, drivers, or applications.
    • Assessing impact of LRUs on the Approved Articles List (AAL) and assessing non-AAP LRUs and media.
    • Reviewing technical documents for impacts to the AAP for In-Service, Modernization and New Construction baselines. Technical documents may include Technical Control Documents/Directives, Maintenance Work Packages, Engineering Change Notices, Advanced Change Notices, Ship Change Documents, and Field Modification Bulletins.
    • Providing recommendations regarding conjunctive changes, CPCRs, and test requirements from an AAP perspective. o Participating in change control boards and diminishing material groups to assess changes from an AAP perspective.
  • Participating in Approved Articles Package (AAP) Surveys in conjunction with Total Ship’s Readiness Assessment (TSRA). This includes:
    • Traveling to and assisting ships in managing/maintaining an AAP certified configuration.
    • Performing corrective actions, as required, to ensure ships are in conformance with the certified configuration.
    • Supporting the development of AAP Survey Reports to document findings and trends.

Application Pre-requisites:

  • US Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Required Education / Skills:

  • BS in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics or One (1) year General experience in Combat Systems Engineering. Combat Systems Engineering refers to experience in the engineering, design, development, testing, maintenance (fleet support), Build, Install, Documentation, or Configuration Management of a combat system. Experience in US Navy-focused Combat System Engineering is preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with the AEGIS Approved Articles Package (AAP) as a user or stakeholder a plus.
  • Ability to use a variety of office automation software, i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. to accomplish technical and support work.
