Job description

Great news! Schillings is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Staff Accountant to join the accounting department at our St. John, IN, location for our fast-growing company.Reporting to and working directly with the Director of Finance and Accounting, the Accountant will assist with monitoring internal control policies and company procedures, as well as assisting the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable departments. We are seeking a candidate who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, who has a passion for numbers and a desire to create useful reporting tools to support our growth. This position is on-site Monday through Friday with excellent benefits.Responsibilities:Assist with finance and accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, general ledger, balance sheets, income statements, employment taxes, and tax reporting.Monitor and enforce internal controls, financial policies, procedures and reporting systems to maximize return on financial assets.Track daily cash balances, cash flow and forecast future cash needs.Review customer accounts, including collections, and verify the accuracy of transactions when needed.Assist with financial analysis and reporting, and budget forecasting.Coordinate bank transactions and transfers.Handle similar accounting responsibilities for Schilling Development.Any other tasks or areas of responsibility that upper management or ownership deem appropriate.Key competencies:Must be resourceful and persistent – have the ability to dig in and troubleshoot problems or complaints, following through to resolution.Suggest improvements to department efficiencies, corrections when needed, reviews, and training/onboarding of new or existing employees.Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize, and keep track of deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Deal tactfully and courteously in any situation, communicating well, verbally and in writing.Be a self-starter who is able to work independently, recognize needs, gaps, and/or opportunities, and initiate suggestions to improve processes, culture, and/or morale.Return all phone calls by priority & no later than end of day.Analytical, detail-oriented, collaborative team player with a positive attitude and sense of urgency.Act professionally and have high integrity, while maintaining confidentiality.Exceptional organizational skills and problem-solving mindset.Education and experience:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.2+ years of experience in accounting and understanding of accounting principles.Experience with QuickBooks is preferred.Basic working knowledge of AI tools required.Experience with point-of-sale systems in retail environments is a plus.Experience with real estate management or development is a plus.Proficient computer skills and the ability to learn and effectively utilize department-specific software systems.Must be able to pass a background check and credit screening.Benefits:Competitive payMedical, Dental, VisionLife insurance & short-term disability401k with profit sharingPTO & paid holidaysSponsored lunch eventsCompany discountsMISSION - Give our customers what they want, on time and error-freeSchillings provides equal employment opportunity to all individuals regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, military status, unfavorable discharge from military status, sex, marital status, disability, order of protection status, age, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or any other characteristics protected by federal, state, or local laws.
