Job description

B.L. Harbert International is seeking an IT Manager to support the International Operations Group in Birmingham, Alabama. Candidate will lead day-to-day IT operations for U.S. offices for the international construction group, manage a small team of support representatives, and design/manage cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS) and hybrid connectivity. Candidate must possess strong technical skills with exceptional communication and relationship-building.
Responsibilities
Technical and Management
  • Lead and mentor 3-4 IT support reps across multiple offices

  • Oversee onboarding/offboarding; ensure timely, secure access

  • Manage Microsoft 365, Dell/Apple endpoints; optimize Birmingham micro-data center

  • Administer Freshservice, AD Manager, Azure Entra, Intune, Meraki; align with global IT

  • Design, deploy, and manage AWS/Azure infrastructure; implement VPCs/VNets, subnets, routing, Security Groups/NSGs, ALB/NLB/Azure LB, VPNs, ExpressRoute/Direct Connect, Transit Gateway/VNet peering

  • Configure and maintain DNS (Route 53/Azure DNS), including private DNS

  • Implement IAM/RBAC with least privilege; encryption via KMS/Azure Key Vault

  • Enforce governance guardrails (AWS Control Tower/SCPs, Azure Policy); support NIST/CIS/SOC 2 compliance

  • Deploy/maintain EC2/Azure VMs, RDS/Azure SQL/managed databases, S3/Blob storage

  • Monitor via CloudWatch/Azure Monitor/Log Analytics; support DR/HA designs

  • Partner closely with operations, field teams, and leadership; communicate plainly and build trust

  • Have a thorough understanding of Power Platform and SharePoint

Project Management & Delivery
  • Lead and manage complex IT and cloud-infrastructure projects using structured project management methodologies

  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, budgets, resource allocations, and risk registers

  • Coordinate cross-functional workstreams (IT, Operations, Security, Field/Construction teams, vendors) to ensure alignment and on time delivery

  • Facilitate project meetings, provide status reporting, and manage stakeholder and executive communication

  • Identify cross-team dependencies, issues, and risks; drive mitigation strategies and corrective action plans

  • Ensure all projects adhere to internal governance, documentation standards, and change control procedures

  • Manage project related vendor relationships, SOWs, and performance expectations Improve project execution consistency by standardizing templates, workflows, and delivery processes

Requirements
  • US Citizen
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
  • 5+ years IT operations with 2+ years in leadership/mentorship

  • 3+ years hands-on AWS/Azure infrastructure experience; strong cloud networking

  • Production support experience; hybrid identity (AD + Entra ID)

  • Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform/CloudFormation/ARM/Bicep)

  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

Preferences
  • AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), Azure Administrator (AZ-104), or Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305)

  • Experience in regulated/compliance-driven environments

  • EKS/AKS; Defender for Cloud, GuardDuty; Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions

  • Degree in CS/IS is a plus (equivalent experience considered)
