What is the difference between an IT program manager and an IT project manager?

A project manager in the field of IT usually works with a team on a single program or project. An IT program manager may oversee multiple projects. Other duties of an IT program manager are to develop a program, plan a budget and timeline, and define the project scope as it relates to a company’s regular operations. Both IT management positions require similar management skills and the ability to plan the framework and scope of a project. Qualifications for an IT program manager or project manager both include a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in computer science or information technology, management skills, and experience.
