Summary
This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Infrastructure Operations Services (IOS), Support Systems pillar. The position is responsible for the full range of duties associated with one or more IT specialty areas required to support the Domain Infrastructure Division. The incumbent serves as a Senior IT Analyst under a Domain Infrastructure Division Chief (Supervisory IT Specialist).

Major Duties:
  • Reviews directive, policies, programs, enterprise-wide functional user requirements and acquisitions strategies/vehicles for program related issues to determine the impart and implications in supporting information systems.
  • Responsible to plan coordinate, develop, improve and implement efficient and economical management of information systems in support of Enterprise-wide activities. These multi-user systems include supply, maintenance, requirements, procurement, budget and personnel.
  • Conducts applied and supporting research for management of information systems by meeting with functional specialist to determine needs. Applying the knowledge of existing information systems and computer capabilities the incumbent develops new information systems.
  • Develops or provides guidance for the solution of difficult and unprecedented problems resulting from new or modified operational management information concepts and requirements.
  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining a system or specific components of a system (e.g. for example, installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and managing user accounts; overseeing or conducting backup and recovery tasks; implementing operational and technical security controls; and adhering to organizational security policies and procedures).
  • Provides technical support to customers who need assistance utilizing client-level hardware and software in accordance with established or approved organizational process components (i.e., Master Incident Management Plan, when applicable). Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains server configurations (hardware and software) to ensure their confidentiality, integrity,
    and availability.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm; Tour of duty may be subject to change based on organizational needs.
Compressed/Flexible: As determined by the Agency Policy.
Telework: ADHOC telework may be authorized at management discretion

Basic Requirement Experience:
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the five competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

Specialized Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-12 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience in the planning, testing and implementation of Directory Services infrastructure technologies in a large multi-domain Active Directory (AD) Environment, including AD object management, user and group management, Group Policy management, support of Domain Name System (DNS) services and user access and authentication.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
