IT Manager

Summary/Objective

Forge Nano Inc., a fast-growing materials company with a focus on manufacturing nano-scale coating equipment across a wide range of markets, is seeking an IT Manager reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. This position is responsible for overseeing the organization's IT operations in partnership with an established third-party IT vendor while developing and formalizing internal IT capabilities.

This role will lead the creation, maintenance and execution of IT policies, procedures, and governance frameworks, including building a comprehensive in-house IT manual. The IT Manager will ensure secure, efficient, and scalable technology solutions aligned with business objectives. An ideal candidate emphasizes the Forge Nano culture of teamwork, collaboration, and proactive problem solving.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Vendor Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the organization's managed IT services provider.
  • Oversee vendor performance, ensuring service levels and contractual obligations are met.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, maintenance, and issue resolution with the vendor.
  • Evaluate vendor recommendations and align solutions with business needs.

IT Policies & Procedures

  • Develop, implement, and maintain IT policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Establish a structured IT governance framework aligned with organizational goals.
  • Ensure policies comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of IT policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.

IT Documentation & Internal Manual Development

  • Lead the creation of a comprehensive internal IT manual that includes:
    • Policies and procedures
    • System documentation
    • User access protocols
    • Incident response workflows
  • Standardize documentation practices for consistency and long-term sustainability.
  • Ensure documentation supports business continuity and knowledge transfer.

Security & Risk Management

  • Partner with the IT vendor to implement and maintain cybersecurity measures.
  • Spearhead development of security compliance with federally mandated programs such as CMMC to secure Forge Nano's ability to capture business with the US military and others.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support compliance efforts (e.g., regulatory, contractual, or industry requirements).

Operational IT Support

  • Coordinate internal IT support requests and serve as an escalation point when needed.
  • Oversee employee onboarding/offboarding for system access and equipment.
  • Ensure backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes are documented and tested.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive IT experience.
  • Experience working with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) or external IT vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience developing IT policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networks, systems, and cybersecurity fundamentals.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience building or formalizing IT governance programs or internal IT frameworks.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as NIST, CMMC, CIS, SOC 1 and 2, or similar frameworks.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, CompTIA Security+).
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business terms.

Work Environment

Work is primarily conducted at our headquarters in Thornton, CO. Forge Nano puts safety and employee environment first. Strict adherence to corporate and/or facility policies, rules and regulations in these areas is required. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on-site.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The employee will need to be able to sort small parts and boxed items. They will interface with the assembly technicians regularly. Majority of work will be working with suppliers by email, phone, and video conference. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms.Lifting containers upwards of 50lbs will be required periodically.

Travel

Some travel may be required on short notice. Forge Nano is located in Thornton, CO. The employee is expected to reside within reasonable driving distance of the facility.

Compensation

  • $ 120,000.00 - $135,000.00 annually; final compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
  • Eligible for company-sponsored benefits, which include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, holidays, PTO, Flexible Spending Account and 401(k) plan with company match and additional voluntary benefits.
