GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONING OF WORK: Performs a variety of complex technical functions for the operations and activities of the Information Technology Department. An employee in this class performs computer network administration and personal computer coordination, website management and mail system management. Work requires a broad range of knowledge of hardware, software, peripheral equipment, and operating systems.

Position requires skill in handling sensitive information, data, and materials in a professional manner. Tact and interpersonal skills are required when dealing with coworkers at varying levels of technology knowledge. Independent judgement and initiative are required.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Finance Directorand is reviewed through observation, conferences, effectiveness of programs, and compliance with legal and statutory requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: THE EMPLOYEE MAY PERFORM A COMBINATION OF SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING DUTIES AND OTHER DUTIES WHICH MAY BE ASSIGNED BY THE TOWN OF SMITHFIELD: Perform PC hardware, software and operating system installation, configuration, upgrades, troubleshooting, repair, one-on-one training and telephone support. Set up and support desktop and laptop computers, printers, software, LAN connections, wireless connections and LAN security.

Confer with end users to determine types of hardware and software, and related standards. Write applications and utilities using Visual Basic.net, MS SQL and other Scripting Languages. Provide system administration for Windows Servers and Linux services including installation, configuration, security, storage, resource use and allocation, backup and restore policies

Provide technical support for TYLER users. Provide technical support to assist Vc3 in the completion of duties and responsibilities. Customize programs as requested for departments.

Fulfills public records requests as needed KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of MS OS environments, network servers and workstations. Good organizational and time management skills. Accurately evaluate and analyze hardware and software.

Ability to handle heavy multitasking and meeting of crucial deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms as requested Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in information technology, information systems, or related field and one year of experience; or Associate's degree or technical certificate from an accredited two-year college or technical school in personal computers and/or network support and 2 years of experience; or Certificate of Competency in personal computer and/or network support and 2 years of experience.

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. Preference given to candidates that are bilingual (English/Spanish).
