An investigative assistant is an entry-level position that conducts office duties and some field work to support investigations into criminal cases and civil justice. In this career, you process legal documentation and reports, including complaints, subpoenas, and more. You collect police reports, fingerprints, and background checks, interview witnesses and victims, and transport them to court as needed. You also review background checks of criminals to determine any security issues that may arise. Completing data entry, maintaining updated records, and using software programs such as CLETS are all part of your responsibilities as an investigative assistant.
