Job description

The Opportunity
Join us in redesigning how healthcare is delivered through our person-centered model of care that emphasizes what's important to both you and our patients: building relationships that are founded on trust. Ovatient is seeking a highly skilled and values-driven physician leader to join our virtual multispecialty practice in a unique dual-capacity role that combines direct patient care with executive clinical informatics leadership.
This position is intentionally structured as up to 70% clinical practice and 30% Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) responsibilities. As a practicing virtual primary care physician, you will make a difference in the lives of our patients by providing high-quality, integrated care through video visits, team-based care, and asynchronous communication. As CMIO, you will serve as the clinical executive voice for how technology, data, and clinical workflows come together to enable exceptional virtual care - shaping our Epic-based platform, digital health tools, analytics, and the responsible adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
This role offers a rare blend of clinical practice, executive leadership, and healthcare innovation, allowing you to provide exceptional care while directly influencing the future of healthcare delivery that starts where you and our patients are: home.
As a clinician and physician informaticist at Ovatient, you will play a crucial role in our Virtual Patient-Centered Medical Home built on Epic, allowing you the ability to provide patients and our partners with care that is connected and emphasizes continuity. You will diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, help incorporate health promotion and prevention, and partner with our behavioral health and urgent care teams as a shared, integrated practice - while ensuring that the systems, workflows, and tools supporting that care are designed by and for clinicians.
About Ovatient

Partnering with leading health systems, we deliver easy-to-access virtual primary and urgent care, and virtual integrated behavioral health visits through Epic and MyChart, ensuring documentation and communication follow the patient across their care journey. This real-time connectivity enables care teams to coordinate referrals, labs, imaging, and prescriptions seamlessly, while providing patients with a personalized experience.
Founded in August 2023 by The MetroHealth System and MUSC Health, Ovatient helps health systems expand access, strengthen loyalty, and capture a larger share of the care market.
Role Structure
  • Clinical Practice (approximately 70%): Direct patient care as a primary care physician within Ovatient's integrated, team-based model.
  • Chief Medical Informatics Officer (approximately 30%): Executive leadership of clinical informatics strategy, Epic optimization, digital health tools, clinical analytics, and technology governance.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical
  • Deliver excellent, personalized, and compassionate virtual primary care, integrated with behavioral health, through video visits, team-based care, digital health tools such as remote patient monitoring, and asynchronous visits.
  • Collaborate with specialists, behavioral health providers, and other healthcare professionals in our integrated care model.
  • Serve as a collaborating physician for APPs, providing supervision and support as required by state regulations. This includes providing guidance to other medical professionals on our team, instilling our high standards of patient care and creating a nurturing learning environment.
  • Apply training in lifestyle medicine and/or obesity medicine, where applicable, to support whole-person care, chronic disease prevention, and weight management programming.
  • Provide cross-coverage between primary and urgent care settings as needed.
Chief Medical Informatics Officer
  • Serve as the physician executive leader for Ovatient's clinical informatics strategy, ensuring that technology decisions are grounded in clinical excellence, patient safety, and provider experience.
  • Lead the clinical design and continuous optimization of Ovatient's Epic environment - including virtual visit workflows, documentation efficiency, order sets, clinical decision support, and in-basket management - in close partnership with our health system partners' informatics and IT teams.
  • Guide the evaluation, selection, and implementation of digital health tools, including remote patient monitoring, asynchronous care capabilities, and MyChart and MyCare Anywhere, Ovatient's patient-facing experiences.
  • Establish and lead governance for the responsible evaluation and adoption of artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging clinical technologies, including ambient documentation and clinical decision support tools.
  • Partner with platform, operations and quality leadership to develop clinical analytics, dashboards, and reporting that measure quality, safety, access, and clinical outcomes across our virtual care model.
  • Champion clinician adoption of technology through training, workflow design, feedback loops, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Represent Ovatient's clinical informatics interests with health system partners, Epic, and vendor partners.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on product strategy, ensuring the clinical voice shapes Ovatient's roadmap and new service line development.
