Job description

JOB DETAILS
Department: IS&T Clinical Informatics
FTE: 1.0 (80 hours per pay period)
Shift(s): Days
Location: Hybrid (seeking local candidate for any necessary on-site needs)

Purpose of this position: The Clinical Informatics Intermediate collaborates with operations and Information Systems on the design and use of informatics solutions that support the vision of Hennepin Healthcare System. They serve as a clinical and technical skilled resource to nursing, medical staff, and other patient care areas to link clinical practice, processes, technology, and information to enhance patient care across all HHS locations. They are skilled with identifying, evaluating, planning, and revising any existing clinical system to standardize workflows and achieve the mission of Hennepin Healthcare. Represents the clinical workflows and end-user needs to ensure successful implementation and adoption of clinical information systems for patient centered care.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Excels at supporting patient care and operational areas in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining efficient, effective, and equitable clinical information and operational systems
  • Utilizes clinical/nursing and process knowledge to facilitate the design, validation and implementation support of future components of the clinical information systems
  • Leads design and discovery sessions for end users
  • Partners with clinical and operational leaders and teams in the prioritization of projects and requests in alignment with organizational goals and initiatives
  • Acts as a constructive change agent and role model for information systems implementation and adoption, serving as the first point of contact for EMR change requests
  • Excels at supporting the system life cycle, including analyzing, designing, developing, selecting, testing, implementing, and evaluating new or modified information system solutions that ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care
  • Provides expert Epic content knowledge
  • Applies technology support to provide evidence-based practice
  • Ability to assess and analyze the impact of implemented solutions to determine a return on investment or metrics required to achieve the required objectives or outcomes
  • Uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and propose solutions to complex operational problems
  • Provides service during regular and/or off hours as needed, including on-site or on-call support as scheduled
  • Catalyst for developing and revising policies and procedures based on system design and workflow reengineering in collaboration with system users
  • Skilled in capturing, documenting, and designing workflows for current and future state operational and clinical needs
  • Participate in projects pertaining to organizational goals, strategies, quality improvements and regulatory requirements
  • Provides expert consultative informatics services to clinical, technical, and operational staff
  • Complies with and supports the Information System and Technology governance structure
  • Provide direct, onsite support to clinical users of the electronic health record (EHR) and promotes adoption of new or changed workflows amongst clinical users
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement in clinical processes and workflow
  • Regularly rounds to gain insight into operational impact of information system technology and opportunities for analysis and/or development
  • Develops reports/spreadsheets/databases using a variety of tools and data from multiple sources
  • Facilitates ongoing system evaluation to ensure technological solutions are achieving the intended clinical or operational outcomes
  • Provides education and support to clinical users of technology and promotes adoption of new or changed workflows amongst operational users. Support may require remote or on-site

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare-related field
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a clinical setting
  • Clinical Informatics experience - 3 years or more

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Epic
  • Familiarity with computer programming, statistical tools, databases and evidence-based medicine or medical research methodology

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Consistently demonstrates excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization, oral and written
  • Demonstrated strong computer literacy including web-based applications, word processing, spreadsheet, graphs, and PowerPoint
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively with a others. Must be willing to work across clinical and operational areas and outside personal area of expertise
  • Demonstrates leadership capabilities
  • Possesses an understanding of clinical practice
