Accounting Analyst
Location: Kansas City, MO

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as a Project Accountant. Recent graduates and career changers with strong analytical skills are encouraged to apply and will be trained for role specifics. This person will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities related to grant-funded initiatives and other organizational programs. The role offers a hybrid schedule with the possibility of working from home several days a week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reconcile project-related accounts, including calculating and analyzing program participant data

  • Audit variances in participant accounts

  • Work with external partners to address account-related questions or resolve discrepancies in account accruals

  • Process payables for assigned programs or properties, including posting invoices and issuing checks

  • Ensure all relevant parties are informed and up to date on key project issues or milestones

  • Complete required project reporting for stakeholders

  • Manage project-related grants and complete periodic grant expense analysis

  • Conduct basic data analysis of program outcomes

  • Assist with preparation and monitoring of budgets

  • Alert management of any irregularities, issues, or opportunities for efficiencies

  • Maintain knowledge of current accounting practices and legal updates

  • As needed, complete bank reconciliations, capital reserve withdrawals, or prepare documentation for audits

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience in accounting, finance, or data analysis is preferred (including internships)

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), project finance, and grant/subsidy programs is preferred, but candidates with strong data analysis and Excel skills will be trained

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting software

  • Strong administrative and data management skills

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and document management tools

  • Ability to work with multiple team members and a sense of urgency

  • Ability to monitor own work to ensure quality and accuracy

  • Experience handling sensitive, confidential information

  • Periodic overtime may be required
