What is an Intensive English Program?

An Intensive English Program (IEP) is a full-time language study program designed to help non-native speakers rapidly improve their English skills. These programs typically focus on academic English, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and may also cover grammar, vocabulary, and cultural topics. IEPs are often offered by universities and language institutes and are ideal for students preparing for academic study, professional development, or personal enrichment. Classes are usually immersive, with multiple hours of instruction each day and opportunities to practice English in real-life situations.

Instructors in an Intensive English Program (IEP) are responsible for teaching English language skills—such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening—to non-native speakers in a fast-paced, immersive environment. Collaboration with colleagues for curriculum development and participation in cultural or extracurricular activities are also common.
