Job description

The Insurance Operations Manager position focuses on the property/casualty lines and related insurance submission program placement, including the risk analysis, administration, and communication required throughout the process.
The associate in this position is able to manage direct reports, day-to-day oversight and drives the corporate risk strategies involving the insurance programs they manage.
This is often accomplished through data-driven analytics and leveraging external brokers and carriers, market trends and conditions, then finally supporting recommendations that protect the organization and consider enterprise risk tolerance while meeting business needs.
More specifically, the Manager, Insurance Operations will:
  • Be a highly motivated individual that can manage without supervision
  • Have a high level of attention to detail with strong analytical and communication skills
  • Be exceptionally organized with good time management skills and have the capacity to manage contending priorities
  • Have the ability to work well with all internal levels of management and external relationships, i.e., insurance brokers, carriers, and other professionals in the insurance industry
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically

Responsibilities
• Investigate and understand the insurable risks associated with JM Family's business to be able to evaluate commercially available insurance products and their capacity to adequately and reasonably protect JM Family assets.
• Evaluate, develop and maintain unique and appropriate insurance programs for JM Family's subsidiaries, partnerships and other ventures.
• Procure and maintain insurance programs for insurable risks and coverage lines at optimal cost and effectiveness. Assume responsibility for multiple insurance programs as agreed.
• Develop, maintain and nurture relationships with external insurance brokers and consultants that support the placement of insurance products and programs.
• Manage the daily insurance operations while maintaining excellent customer service. Those operations include: policy issuance and historical maintenance, issuance of certificates of insurance, coverage analysis and determination, coverage verifications, consulting advice including contract reviews.
• Provide subject matter expertise to business units identifying and raising risk concerns that may arise in the proposed course of their business, and as appropriate developing solutions that harmonize with JM Family's consolidated insurance program. • Consult on insurance services and products to business units and affiliates as a way to effect enterprise-wide insurance cost reductions.
• Supervise directly and/or indirectly members of the insurance team.
• Practice and adhere to the "JM Family Way"
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree required
  • 7+ years' experience heading and directing insurance for a corporation (would consider similar experience at a broker placing coverage for corporates)
  • Insurance certification (such as CPCU or ARM) preferred
  • Experience placing insurance for large conglomerates
  • Experience with engineer-based property coverage (is a plus)
  • Excellent Communication, Negotiation & Presentation skills

Essential Qualifications and Job Functions:
  • Knowledge of JM Family's businesses and risk exposures
  • Extensive knowledge and comprehension of business insurance lines, insurance policy forms and wordings, insurance market dynamics, and conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute value-added solutions
  • Must be creative and demonstrate innovative thinking in responding to challenges presented by a rapidly evolving business model and regulatory environment
  • Must have strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively present to all levels of management and external audiences including brokerage and insurance market partners
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and ownership to drive projects to completion
  • Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers/stakeholders and establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customers/stakeholders by gaining their trust and respect
  • Exceptionally organized and solid project management skills with the capability to manage contending priorities.
