The Storage Architect provides advanced technical expertise to a DoD storage team and supports development of innovative solutions for complex infrastructure challenges. The individual serves as a subject-matter expert, guiding project teams and ensuring systems align with organizational and regulatory standards. They independently solve complex technical problems, support major projects, and help maintain a stable and efficient operational environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced technical support, analysis, and guidance on complex infrastructure matters.
  • Serve as a technical expert to project teams, offering interpretation and solution alternatives.
  • Ensure hardware, operating systems, and software comply with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Document system specifications, project plans, configurations, and testing activities.
  • Contribute to research and development efforts that enhance infrastructure capabilities.
  • Lead or support major technical projects, applying creative and effective problem-solving approaches.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues within the existing environment.
  • Assign routine tasks to support staff and provide technical direction as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for system requirements, project plans, configurations, and testing processes.
  • Support research and development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure functionality.
  • Take the lead or assist with significant technical projects, using innovative and practical problem-solving approaches.
  • Diagnose and address operational problems within the current environment.
  • Delegate routine assignments to support staff and offer technical guidance when necessary.
  • Support storage system security, ensuring deployments and configurations adhere to DISA STIGs as well as DoD cybersecurity policies.
  • Coordinate the team's support for after-hours troubleshooting and incident response.
  • Provide storage, backup, and system administration.
  • Support on-premises and cloud-hosted environments.
  • Support management related tasks as required to include onboarding, offboarding, and compiling/reviewing status and progress reports.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Required Experience:
    • Two (2) years of experience in an advisory or managerial role supporting DoD or Federal enterprise infrastructure, including evaluating, integrating, and implementing enterprise-level storage and backup software technologies.
    • Five (5) years of hands-on experience with enterprise SAN (Storage Area Network) management, including technologies such as Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE, unified fabric, HBAs/CNAs, storage controllers, LUNs, RAID, and file sharing/NAS (Network Addressable Storage).
    • Hands-on experience managing enterprise hierarchical storage systems and operating enterprise backup and restore services using tools such as Veritas NetBackup.
    • Three (3) years of hands-on experience working with Department of Defense (DoD) IT systems.
  • Required Certifications:
    • DoD 8570 IAT II Certification
    • Must also have one of the following Computing Environment certifications:
      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
      • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
      • Hitachi Data Systems Qualified Professional Storage Administration
      • Dell Certified Associate Information Storage and Management
      • NetApp Certified Data Administrator (ONTAP)

Work Environment and Physical Demand:
