Job description

The HR Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the HR & Payroll Operations Center (HRPOC), ensuring the delivery of high-quality customer service and the accurate processing of personnel and payroll transactions. This position supervises a team responsible for front-line support, including onboarding, fingerprinting, I-9 verification, and payroll-related inquiries. The incumbent ensures compliance with university policies, labor agreements, and regulatory requirements, while also leading efforts in continuous process improvement, training, and documentation. The role requires a high level of judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The position requires a regular on-site presence to oversee front desk operations, supervise in-person service delivery, ensure compliance with federal and state onboarding requirements, and provide real-time support to staff handling walk-in employee inquiries.
  • The budgeted salary range for this position is: $70,900.00 - $87,500.00
  • This is a hybrid position. The selected candidate will be expected to commute to UCLA and work on campus at least 2-3 days per week.

Campus Human Resources provides a full range of human resource management services through its various units, including Health and Welfare Benefits, Compensation and Classification, Personnel Policy development and compliance, Employee and Labor Relations, Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning, HR Information Systems, the Staff and Faculty Counseling Center, Learning and Organizational Development, and the HR & Payroll Operations Center. The HR & Payroll Operations Center provides human resources and payroll services to a diverse client pool and assists with ongoing campus initiatives and special projects.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in payroll and HR operations, preferably in a unionized environment. (Required)
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience with the ability to coach, mentor, and evaluate staff. (Required)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret policies, contracts, and payroll regulations. (Required)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse populations. (Required)
  • Proficiency in UCPath, Kronos, TRS, and Microsoft Office Suite. (Required)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification as a fingerprint roller. (Required)

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to successfully prepare written materials and present information. (Required)
