What is a human resource?

Human Resources (HR) refers to the department within an organization responsible for managing employee relations, recruitment, training, benefits, and compliance with labor laws. HR professionals play a vital role in ensuring a positive workplace environment, helping with conflict resolution, and supporting organizational goals through effective talent management. They are also involved in developing company policies, handling payroll, and facilitating employee development programs. The HR department acts as a bridge between management and employees, ensuring smooth communication and workplace satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a human resource professional?

To thrive as a Human Resource professional, you need a solid understanding of employment law, talent management, and organizational policies, often supported by a degree in HR or business administration. Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS), payroll software, and certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR is commonly required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, discretion, and problem-solving abilities help build trust and resolve workplace issues effectively. These competencies are crucial for fostering a productive work environment, ensuring compliance, and supporting organizational goals.

How do human resource professionals typically balance employee advocacy with organizational goals?

Human Resource professionals often navigate the balance between supporting employees' needs and advancing the organization's objectives. This involves clear communication, ensuring policies are fair and transparent, and acting as a bridge between staff and management. HR teams regularly mediate conflicts, gather feedback through surveys or meetings, and advocate for employee well-being while aligning their recommendations with company strategy. Building trust with both sides is essential to fostering a positive work environment and achieving business success.

Job description

Human Resource Consultant
Department: Human Resources
Employment Type: Contract to hire
Location: Atlanta
Description
Hire Ventures is a boutique Human Resources consulting firm headquartered in Atlanta. We specialize in providing fractional, project-based, and advisory HR support to small and medium-sized companies. Since 2001, we have been helping businesses navigate the complexities of HR and recruiting, with a focus on attracting and retaining top talent in an ever-changing world.
Our services are especially ideal for companies that have HR or recruiting needs but may not have a full-time resource in-house. As we continue to grow, we are expanding our Human Resources Consulting team. Most of our consultants support 3-5 clients simultaneously, often collaborating with other Hire Ventures consultants to deliver exceptional results in a fractional capacity. We are not industry-specific but work with chosen clients who care about the culture they are building and place a high value on the employee experience. We partner with our clients, acting as an embedded part of their team, often in a leadership capacity but with the ability to handle all things HR.
We're looking for a proven self-starter who is passionate and experienced in various areas of Human Resources. This is a hybrid role based in Atlanta, blending work from our office, client locations and remote.
Key Responsibilities
What you will be doing:
  • Serve as an extension of our clients' in-house teams, providing support across the employee lifecycle, including on & off boarding, benefits administration, payroll administration, leave management and performance management.
  • Assist with HR audits, compliance and HR administration, building efficiencies around hiring, onboarding, employee development, compensation, benefits, and performance management.
  • Handle tasks such as payroll processing, benefits administration, leave management, and employee terminations.
  • Project-based work like crafting Employee Handbooks, conducting comprehensive job descriptions and managing HR Investigations.
  • HR is ever-changing, and many of our clients are geographically dispersed with employees in multiple states; that said, you must stay up to date on state and federal employment laws to ensure client compliance.
  • Participate in team meetings and work closely with other consultants to share knowledge and strengthen the Hire Ventures team.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
To be considered you must have the following:
  • This position is located in Atlanta and will be a hybrid role, that may require onsite client visits. Out of state candidates will not be considered.
  • Ideally a Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or relevant and equivalent experience
  • HR Certification is a plus.
  • Must have 10+ years of progressive and relevant HR experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, be motivated, articulate and make sound decisions under the position guidelines - in a positive, results-driven and forward-thinking manner.
  • Should have an active presence in the professional world, especially LinkedIn.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people in a polite and professional manner, with high attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, business writing knowledge a plus.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of human resources either from courses or working experience.
  • Must be coachable and have a strong desire to learn with a growth mindset and love of technology.
  • Be a good team player yet able to work independently with little instruction or supervision and with a high degree of trust.

Our most successful employees fit the following description:
  • You are easy to work with, easy to manage and take pride in the work you do! You always do your best, the status quo isn't acceptable...exceeding expectations is the norm. You are generous in nature, you assume positive intent and care about those you work with.
  • You work hard and work smart...you have a high level of self-confidence and self-care. This allows you to put others first, which is critical in the work we do.
  • Our values resonate with you, you can review them on our website https://hireventures.com/who-we-are/#our-values.
