Job Description Summary
The Human Resources Student Assistant will provide administrative support across all divisions of the Office of Human Resources at the University. This entry level position provides an introduction to different areas of Human Resources such as Talent Management, Payroll, Benefits, Compensation, and HRIS. This position plays a critical role in covering the front desk area of the office and often serves as the first point of contact for faculty, staff, students, vendors, community partners, and other guests.
Specific Duties
  • Front desk area coverage, when needed, for the office. Tasks may include:
    • Greeting visitors and directing them to the appropriate staff member for assistance.
    • Answering phone calls for the general Human Resources office phone number.
    • Taking and delivering messages.
    • Opening, sorting, and distributing mail/deliveries.

  • Supports the Office of Human Resources with special projects such as:
    • Maintaining the Position Description Questionnaire database
    • Maintaining the Organizational Charts database
    • Preparing agendas for Talent Management Team meetings
    • Editing forms and templates for the HR Portal.

  • Other projects. Projects are assigned based on the HR Student Assistant's skill set and work schedule. Projects can change each semester.
  • Prepare check requests, invoices, and other financial/business forms to be reviewed and signed off by Human Resources staff and then delivered to the Office of Financial and Business Services for processing
  • Other duties as assigned by the Talent Management Coordinator for Student Employment. HR Student Assistants frequently help with a variety of ad hoc tasks and projects as needed for all divisions of Human Resources
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a current University of La Verne student with Federal Work Study eligibility for the 2026-2027 academic year.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to details and accuracy.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in Human Resources and/or Business Management as a career path.
  • Majoring in Business Administration, Business Management, or Leadership and Management.
Benefits Summary
Employees are eligible for the following benefits:
One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
