Job Title: Food Service/Kitchen Assistant/Server Department: Springside at Seneca Hill
Reports to: Chef, On-Duty Cook and Revision Date: 6/4/2020
Director of Operations
Grade Level: 11 Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
The Food Service/Kitchen Assistant/Server assists provides comprehensive food services for Springside at Seneca. Duties include, but are not limited to: preparation of food, preparation of dining room prior to meals, clean-up after meals and clean kitchen, equipment and appliances routinely.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist with food preparation as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment in kitchen, dining room and nutrition area.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, pots/pans, flatware, etc. following each meal, in accordance with proper procedures for cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Bus tables during and after meals as assigned; reset tables for next meal as assigned.
  • Participate in serving food and beverages.
  • Prepare beverages before meals.
  • Clean equipment, appliances, floors, drains, storage area, refrigerator, freezer and sinks according to schedule.
  • Spot mop floor in dining room after each evening/Sunday meal.
  • Operate equipment and appliances according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor or Chief Operating Officer.
  • Maintain accurate records of chargeable (guest/resident/catered meals) and non-chargeable meals (marketing/resident meals).
  • Assure proper storage, handling and labeling of food.
  • Carry out duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, as requested.
  • Participate in training opportunities, as available.
  • Adhere to and carry out Springside at Seneca Hill, Inc. policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to company dress code.
  • Report on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
  • Practice safety in working with and around kitchen equipment, appliances, and utensils.
  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, families and visitors
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, facility operations and personnel.
  • Treat residents with dignity, fairness and respect.
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):
  • Knowledge of how OSHA regulations affect on-the-job tasks, including use of chemicals, equipment, and procedures for the safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Knowledge of fire and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to food handling and storage and sanitation standards and procedures.
  • Ability to perform conversion of weights and measures.
  • Safe and proper operation of kitchen equipment and appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, stove/oven/griddle, ansul hood, etc.).
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions and take direction from supervisor

Education and Experience:
  • Under 18 with working papers.
  • Experience in food preparation preferred.
  • Experience or interest in working with older adults.
  • Neat appearance and good personal hygiene.
  • Reading, writing and comprehension at an 8th grade level or better.

Working Conditions:
  • Perform weekend work, as assigned.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Must be able to lift, balance, and carry weight up to 25 lbs.
  • Public areas of building, including kitchen, are air-conditioned and heated. Temperature of resident apartments may be considerably warmer than public areas.
  • Non-smoking work environments.
  • Exposure to chemicals/cleaning solutions.
  • Exposure to hot surfaces, steams and hot grease.
  • Attendance is required at assigned date, time and location.
  • Actively participates in Quality Assurance programs, CQI, cross-training, in-service programs; attends and/or participates in all mandatory classes, meetings and committees as required.
  • Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations.

NOTE: This facility is open 365 days a year - weekends and some major holidays are required
Pay Range: $16.00-$19.20/hour
Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
