Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director of Hockey Operations oversees the day-to-day administrative and operational functions of the men's hockey program while supporting the coaching staff in recruiting, player development, and team management. Responsibilities include coordinating team travel, scheduling, budgeting, compliance, equipment logistics, camps and clinics, alumni relations, and game-day operations. In addition, the position serves in a third assistant coach capacity by assisting with on-ice instruction, video analysis, scouting opponents, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and supporting player development initiatives. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills to ensure the efficient operation and competitive success of the program.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Coaching and Leadership: Collaborate with the head coach to implement effective coaching strategies that develop players' technical skills, tactical understanding, and overall performance. Foster a team culture rooted in discipline, accountability, and sportsmanship.
  • Recruitment: Participate in scouting and recruiting efforts to identify and attract top talent. Build and maintain relationships with high school coaches, club programs, and prospective student-athletes.
  • Team Management: Support the daily operations of the program including practice organization, match preparation, travel logistics, and student-athlete welfare.
  • Game Management: Assist with game day operations, including scouting, in-game coaching, and post-game analysis. Help manage game strategies and make real-time adjustments.
  • Player Development: Mentor and support student-athletes, focusing on their athletic and academic progress. Conduct individual meetings to discuss performance, goals, and improvement strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the strength and conditioning staff, athletic trainers, and academic advisors to ensure a comprehensive support system for student athletes.
  • Academic Support: Partner with academic support services to ensure student athletes maintain strong academic standing and make progress toward their degrees.
  • Compliance: Uphold NCAA, conference, and university regulations at all times. Promote a program committed to integrity and ethical standards.
  • Community Engagement: Represent LIU and the soccer program within the campus and local communities. Assist in outreach initiatives and foster connections with alumni and supporters.
  • Budget Management: Assist with aspects of the budget program, ensuring efficient and responsible use of resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • High level college coaching and/or playing experience
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and a record of compliance
  • Strong computer, verbal and written skills
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and travel including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, staff, and administration.
  • Valid US Drivers License
