About Buddyโ€™s Speed World:
Buddyโ€™s Speed World is the high-performance division of BMI Inc. We build serious performance vehicles, hot rods, show cars and/or daily drivers. Backed by a reputation for uncompromising quality, integrity, and results, we specialize in custom builds, precision fabrication, performance installations, advanced diagnostics, and tuning.
Located in the beautiful Lake Gaston area of North Carolina, we offer more than just a job โ€” we offer a lifestyle surrounded by water, freedom, and a tight-knit community of enthusiasts.
Our Core Values:
  • Integrity First โ€“ Do the right thing.
  • Own It โ€“ Take responsibility.
  • Exceed Expectations โ€“ Go the extra mile.
  • Team Over Ego โ€“ Check the ego at the door.
  • Relentless Improvement โ€“ Continuously improve everything you do.

Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced High-Performance Technician who thrives on building, troubleshooting, and perfecting modified vehicles. This is not a routine service or oil-change role โ€” itโ€™s hands-on work on real performance builds.
What Youโ€™ll Be Doing:
  • Install and integrate high-performance systems (superchargers, turbo setups, fuel systems, intercoolers, exhaust, and cooling upgrades).
  • Perform light-to-moderate fabrication and custom modifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex drivability and performance issues using engine theory (air, fuel, spark, mechanical).
  • Work on late-model domestic platforms, especially GM LS/LT and Ford Coyote/Modular.
  • Troubleshoot and integrate aftermarket engine management and electronics.
  • Install and align performance suspension, steering, and brake upgrades.
  • Execute clean, professional wiring and system integration.
  • Test, validate, and fine-tune work through real-world and dyno performance.
  • Document work clearly for team tracking and customer communication.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and highly organized workspace.
  • Mentor junior technicians as the shop continues to grow.
What Weโ€™re Looking For:
  • Strong hands-on experience with performance installations and fabrication.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of forced induction, engine performance fundamentals, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Pride in craftsmanship and obsession with details.
  • True team player โ€” humble, accountable, and ego-free.
  • Ability to work independently while consistently delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong communication skills and professional attitude.
Experience Requirements:
  • 3+ years in a performance shop or high-level automotive environment.
  • Trade school or equivalent hands-on experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with forced induction (superchargers/turbos).
  • Familiarity with tuning platforms (HP Tuners, Holley, etc.).
  • Strong electrical diagnostics and wiring skills.
  • Fabrication experience (exhaust, intercooler piping, brackets, etc.).
  • Dyno operation or data analysis.
Compensation & Growth:
  • Highly competitive pay based on experience and proven ability.
  • Performance incentives tied directly to quality and productivity.
  • Clear path for leadership and advancement as our performance division expands.
  • Opportunity to work on exciting, high-level builds in a growing shop.
Why Join Buddyโ€™s Speed World? If youโ€™re passionate about building vehicles that actually perform, take pride in your work, and want to be part of a team that lives our core values every day, this is the opportunity for you. Enjoy meaningful work in a beautiful lakeside community with room to grow.
How to Apply Send your resume and a short note about your relevant experience. Photos of your past builds or projects are strongly encouraged.
Questions? Feel free to reach out โ€” weโ€™d love to hear from you.
