Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Engineering Manager 2 for the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) division Launch Systems (LS) Support Equipment team. This leadership role will be located at Roy, UT and will provide enabling support for all business areas within the SDS portfolio. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What You'll Get To Do:

This position is a dual-hat position requiring the candidate to perform functional management activities as well as program responsibilities. It is expected that the Functional management role will comprise up to 20% of the candidate's time.

As a Functional Manager, you will be required to provide a wide range of people leadership, mentoring activities and fostering a culture that allows employees to learn and grow. You will facilitate and execute the performance management cycle for your direct reports. This includes setting goals, Quarterly Connection That Count reviews as well as performance and compensation evaluations. This role will also require you to mentor your direct reports in many ways. You will be their first line of contact for things such as career growth, training and certifications funding, stretch assignments, etc.

As an Engineering Manager supporting the SDS Launch Systems (LS) Support Equipment team, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers developing complex test stations and ancillary Support Equipment items, coordinating with suppliers, reviewing designs, and collaborating with other NG Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to ensure adherence to, and implementation of requirements as well as ensuring the designed Support Equipment items are delivered successfully. You will actively participate in and oversee design reviews, research, plan, design and development of mechanical, electro-mechanical, and software products and solutions. Additional duties include EVMS reporting and compliance with the work you will be responsible for. Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail are critical to being successful in this position.

Essential Functions will include:

  • Collaborate with the Software (SW) Development, Systems Engineering, Test Automation, DevSecOps and Systems Test organizations, to ensure the team is meeting the mission engineering objectives of the contracts.

  • Serve as a work package manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of SW and HW products to next level of integration, meeting contractual cost, schedule, and technical requirements.

  • Manage a team of approximately 10-20 individuals to complete the full software development life cycle in an Agile software development environment and hardware development.

  • Report budget, scope and schedule progress using Agile Metrics and EVMS methodologies.

  • Facilitate risk management and provide technical guidance to the team.

  • Participate in the full software development life cycle including design, implementation, test, and delivery of software products to our customers.

  • Work in Agile Scrum teams to develop software products for multiple software baselines.

  • Support team Allocation and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) task planning based on received Budget Advice and associated TAs in coordination with SW IPT, SW Development Leads, SW Architects, and Product Owners.

  • Oversee and manage the quality and timeliness of the organization's products and identify and remediate potential issues before they become problems.

  • Support program reviews as required.

  • Provide Functional Management with direct reports, including career guidance, performance management, staffing, interviewing/onboarding, disciplinary actions, and direct engagement.

  • Serve as Work Package Lead (WPL) or Control Account Management (CAM) as needed

  • Identify and track program risks and opportunities

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related experience, or 6 years of related experience with Master's degree in a STEM discipline

  • 6 Years of experience with Support Equipment hardware development for aircraft/aerospace programs; including requirements generation, conceptual/detail design, design reviews, and/or testing

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Experience in other Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) disciplines, especially SERD/MTA development.

  • Familiarity with systems-engineering tools (CAMEO, DOORS) and architecture modeling.

  • Proficiency in NX (3-D design) and 2-D drawing CAD or similar/relevant tools.

  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) and/or Collaborative PLM (CPLM) systems.

  • Knowledge of GD&T and ASME?Y14.5-2009 standards.

  • Experience collaborating with specialty-engineering stakeholders (PM&P, Safety, Human Factors, etc.).

  • Experience leading a team of engineers and manage cross functional coordination, budgets, and schedules

  • Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience and certification.

  • Hands-on background in equipment maintenance, fabrication, assembly, and precision-measurement tooling.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interpret technical requirement documents.

  • Must be an expert with Microsoft Office Suite of tools - Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word

Primary Level Salary Range: $126,600.00 - $189,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
