At Hord Farms, our success relies on our people and processes. We're currently seeking a Director of Grain Elevator and Feed Mill to add to our team. This senior leader position reports to the VP of Market Analysis & Nutritional Services and serves as the senior operational leader responsible for the overall performance of grain elevator and feed mill operations.
Position Title: Director of Grain Elevator and Feed Mill

The Hord family is in its 5th generation of family farming, with over 100 years of farming heritage. Headquartered in North Central Ohio, Hord Farms is a diversified pig, cow, and grain farm, striving to raise our animals and crops with care and utilize modern practices to be efficient and sustainable.
A day in the life:
Leadership & People Management
  • Provide clear leadership and direction to elevator and feed mill team members, promoting company culture, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and communicate expectations, goals, and performance standards.
  • Lead hiring, training, development, scheduling, performance evaluation, and time management of team members.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Operational Management
  • Oversee all grain elevator operations including receiving, storage, drying, handling, quality management, and outbound logistics.
  • Oversee all feed mill operations including ingredient sourcing, feed formulation coordination, production scheduling, quality control, and delivery.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between grain procurement, ingredient handling, feed production, feed scheduling and transportation.
  • Monitor grain and feed quality standards and ensure proper documentation and controls are followed.
Maintenance & Capital Oversight
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for grain handling equipment, feed mill systems, and transportation assets.
  • Prioritize maintenance and capital improvement projects to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.
  • Provide leadership on troubleshooting, repairs, and long-term asset planning.
Financial & Performance Management
  • Develop and manage operating budgets for elevator and feed mill operations.
  • Analyze cost data, production metrics, and operational KPIs to identify efficiency improvements and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Utilize internal and external benchmarks to guide decision-making and performance optimization.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, biosecurity, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote housekeeping, safe work practices, and proper use of PPE.
  • Address operational risks and lead corrective actions as needed.
Strategic Planning
  • Participate in long-term planning to align grain storage capacity, feed production capability, and logistics with organizational growth.
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to support broader business objectives.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Proven experience managing complex agricultural, grain, or feed manufacturing operations.
  • Strong leadership background with demonstrated ability to manage teams across multiple operational areas.
  • Solid understanding of grain elevator operations, feed mill processes, maintenance programs, and logistics.
  • Experience with budgeting, cost analysis, and performance metrics.
  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, economics, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
