Job description

Overview
  • This position is open until filled with an initial application review to take place after June 22, 2026.
  • Work hours will range from 12-16 per week in 3-4 hour shifts, Monday-Friday between 9am to 2pm.
  • The pay rate for this position is $19 - $20 per hour.

The SDSU Research Foundation Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is the largest WIC agency in San Diego County, with approximately 80 employees providing a variety of nutrition services to over 26,000 participants monthly. The WIC program is a safety net program that aims to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care for residents of San Diego County.
Under the direction of the Associate Director performs day-to-day tasks in support of WIC Operations such as delivering supplies, receiving warehouse deliveries, minor equipment assembly, vehicle maintenance tasks, meeting room set ups and printing WIC materials.
Responsibilities
The WIC Warehouse Support is responsible for but not limited to:
Deliveries 50%
Provides pickup and delivery of supplies, interoffice mail, breast pumps, WIC Cards and document boxes for WIC locations.
Warehouse, Equipment and Inventory Support 25%
Oversees warehouse organization of equipment, nutrition education, breastfeeding and outreach materials. Assist with inventory tracking to include light computer-based documentation, physical tagging and recycle and disposition of items removed from inventory. Provides all office copies of nutrition education, outreach materials and fiscal paperwork for audit files. Duplicates, collates, folds and stuff envelopes for participant mass mailings.
Equipment Assembly and Maintenance 20%
Responsible for making minor equipment assembly such as lightweight furniture and waiting room toys. Assist Breastfeeding Coordinator with cleaning of breast pumps. Assist in setting up meeting rooms for various training and meeting needs. Responsible for vehicle maintenance tasks such as filling gas tank and keeping cars clean.
Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned 5%
Participates in staff meetings and trainings as needed.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the common terminology, methods, practices, tools and procedures related to basic building maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of the wide variety of policies and procedures integral to the California WIC program as it pertains to document retention
  • Ability to perform a variety of repair tasks, operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems
  • Ability to follow standard written instructions and procedures
  • Ability to assemble, install and repair equipment and furniture
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to provide proof of valid California Driver's License and current insurance coverage
  • Ability to drive throughout San Diego County and to WIC Offices
  • Ability to maintain inventory of WIC equipment
  • Ability to track retention dates and schedule shredding of confidential documentation
  • Ability to interact and communicate clearly and effectively in a professional manner, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of participant, employee and agency records and documents
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and to work with a multi-cultural staff and participant population
  • Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures
  • Ability to arrive to work on time, understand and follow posted work rules and procedures
  • Ability to relate well to others within the WIC project environment and interact effectively with coworkers
  • Ability to be a highly motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Previous experience working for WIC, Public Health or Social Services programs
  • 6-months of hands-on experience performing shuttle driving and/or warehouse work
