Who We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a School Counselor at Horace Mann Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. The Springfield City School District values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!
As a School Counselor you are required to:
  • Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education in School Counseling.
  • Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions
  • Be willing to serve on teams
  • Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role

Preferred qualifications:
  • DASL and Progress book or similar expertise is preferred

As a School Counselor you will:
  • Provides counseling opportunities for all students
  • Provides crisis intervention
  • Provides opportunities for parental conferences
  • Provides counseling services to develop student social emotional learning
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Managing an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and the development of the whole child.
  • Fostering a cooperative and respectful partnership with families and encouraging parent involvement through classroom observations and volunteer opportunities.
  • Maintaining close relationships with parents, communicating on a regular basis, specifically in regards to at-risk students.
  • Actively engaging at-risk students in the learning process; planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
  • Recognizing the needs of individual students and the entire group and offering support and flexibility as needed.
  • Working as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the goals of our District.
  • Utilizing technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Participating in professional development activities that are aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content and the varied needs of students.

What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, School Counselor work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.
Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.

All employees receive professional development
The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.
