How much do full time paralegal jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 30, 2026, the average yearly pay for full time paralegal in the United States is $59,731.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $48,000.00 and $68,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Paralegal, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Paralegal, you need strong legal research, document drafting, and organizational skills, typically supported by a paralegal certificate or relevant degree. Proficiency with legal research databases (like Westlaw or LexisNexis), case management software, and document management systems is often required. Attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to multitask efficiently are critical soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate legal support, effective case management, and seamless collaboration with attorneys and clients.

What are some common challenges full-time paralegals face in managing their workload, and how can they overcome them?

Full-time paralegals often juggle multiple cases and tight deadlines, which can make prioritizing tasks a challenge. Staying organized with task lists, utilizing legal management software, and maintaining clear communication with attorneys can help manage these demands. It’s also common to encounter last-minute requests or changes in case strategy, so flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly are essential. Building strong time-management skills and proactively seeking clarification on priorities can help paralegals navigate these challenges successfully.

Can I make 6 figures as a paralegal?

Full-time paralegals typically earn salaries below six figures, with most earning between $50,000 and $80,000 annually. Achieving a six-figure income may require extensive experience, specialization in high-demand areas, working in large firms or corporate legal departments, or obtaining advanced certifications. Salary potential varies based on location, employer, and individual skills.

Do paralegals work full time?

Full-time paralegals typically work around 35 to 40 hours per week, often during standard business hours in law firms, corporate legal departments, or government agencies. Some positions may require overtime or evening hours depending on case deadlines or workload demands.

What is the highest paid type of paralegal?

Specialized paralegals, such as corporate, intellectual property, or litigation paralegals with advanced skills and certifications, tend to earn the highest salaries. Paralegals working in large law firms or in high-demand industries often have higher pay due to the complexity of their work and required expertise.

Will AI replace paralegals?

AI technology can automate routine tasks such as document review, legal research, and data management, which are part of a paralegal's responsibilities. However, paralegals provide critical support through analysis, communication, and judgment that AI cannot fully replicate, so the role is expected to evolve rather than be replaced entirely.
