Job description

Our Market Story

At Brookhaven Market, we're more than just a chain of family-owned grocery stores; we're dedicated to crafting memorable customer experiences. Our mission is to bring the world's best foods to the communities we serve, ensuring every shopping trip is a journey of culinary delight.

Your Next Cut

Brookhaven Market is looking for a full-time, onsite Butcher in Darien, IL, earning $19–$22/hour. You’ll help keep our meat department looking sharp, stocked right, and ready for whatever customers are planning for dinner.
In this role, you’ll cut, trim, grind, and portion a variety of proteins (beef, pork, poultry, lamb, and seafood), support inventory accuracy, and help receive and stock deliveries. You’ll also label and store product correctly, keep everything at proper temperatures, and operate/maintain knives, saws, and grinders with safety top of mind—always following food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Just as important: you’ll answer questions, communicate clearly, and provide friendly, helpful service for special requests.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Proven experience as a butcher, meat cutter, or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of meat cuts, preparation techniques, and industry best practices.
- Ability to use meat-cutting equipment such as knives, saws, and grinders safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations related to meat handling.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to walk and stand the duration of shift and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Attention to detail, with a focus on product quality and presentation.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays when needed.
If this Butcher role feels like a good fit, send in your application.

Shift Snapshot

Your day as a Butcher starts with a quick lap: check cooler and case temps, sanitize the station, and get your tools dialed in. From there, it’s a friendly flow of customer chats—helping someone pick the perfect cut, answering cooking questions, and wrapping up special orders exactly how they like. Between rushes, you’ll rotate product, tidy the case, confirm labels, and keep everything stored at the right temp. You’ll also sync up with the team on what’s selling fast, what just arrived, and what needs topping off so the department stays ready through close.
