Job description

Position Objective:
The Camp Services Intern functions in a developing leadership role within the Camp Services Department, taking on expanded pastoral, supervisory, and residential responsibilities within the Camp Service Worker (CSW) program. To provide appropriate spiritual mentorship, residential oversight, and gender-specific care in the CSW living spaces, this role is split into two distinct positions: one Male Intern and one Female Intern.
Camp Services Interns will actively help plan, coordinate, and lead off-site trips, while serving as a primary point of encouragement and performance evaluation for CSWs. With guidance and direction from the Camp Services Director and Housing Coordinator, they provide household oversight to foster a healthy Christian community, handle conflict resolution, and maintain residential standards.
General Qualifications:
The Camp Services Intern is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.'s ("MHA") Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA's Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings which include prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching. Key Job Accountabilities:
CSW Program Mentorship & Performance Evaluation
  • Serve as a primary relational presence by coming directly alongside CSWs during their active work days across various operational departments to encourage them, build rapport, and model servant leadership.
  • Actively observe, assess, and evaluate the operational fit and job performance of CSWs during their shifts, collaborating with department supervisors to ensure productivity and growth.
  • Learn and apply frameworks for corrective coaching and performance development, delivering constructive feedback and guidance to help CSWs succeed both personally and professionally.

Residential Leadership & Community Care
  • Serve as the residential Community Facilitator for the respective male or female CSW living quarters, cultivating a safe, mature, and Christ-centered household environment.
  • Schedule and conduct regular house meetings with residents to build community, facilitate group devotionals, and intentionally pray with and for the CSWs.
  • Act as the first line of support for residential interpersonal challenges, helping guide CSWs through biblical conflict resolution and healthy communication practices.
  • Conduct regular cleanliness and safety checks of the residential spaces, ensuring stewardship, respect, and compliance with facility guidelines.

Off-Site Trips & Engagement
  • Learn to plan, coordinate logistics for, and lead off-site trips, excursions, and ministry outings designed for the CSW cohort.
  • Attend, support, and actively participate in all CSW program functions, including both formal events (training, devotionals, and chapels) and informal gatherings (socials, meals, community nights).
  • Assist in facilitating group discussions, prayer times, and spiritual formation opportunities within the team environment.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Operations
  • Support clear communication pipelines between CSWs, camp leadership, and departmental supervisors (Front Desk, Food Services, Retail, Accommodations, etc.).
  • Assist in identifying operational needs or challenges and help implement real-time solutions during peak camp seasons.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Camp Services.

Intern Program Key Accountabilities (10% to 15% of your time):
  • Thoughtfully engage in coursework and readings assigned by the Intern Program Director, in order to grow in your understanding of God, yourself, and your vocational calling.
  • Attend, engage, and contribute to Intern Program meetings and training.
  • Participate in two Intern Retreats and one all-staff retreat.

Other Responsibilities (up to 25% of your time):
  • Serve cross-departmentally in order to learn other skills and service roles in camping ministry. This may include Dining, Facilities, Accommodations, and Guest Services.
  • Help facilitate a Guest Group event during the Thanksgiving holiday week, in partnership with Mount Hermon's Guest Services team and other departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership and support to Camp Service Workers under the direction of the Senior Director, but does not supervise employees.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:
  • Bachelors degree
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications preferred but not required.

Work Experience:
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a ministry, leadership, or camp setting preferred.
  • Experience coordinating or mentoring peer-aged individuals is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication and the structural maturity required to deliver professional evaluations and corrective coaching.
  • Possesses a servant's heart with an innate desire to invest in the spiritual and emotional growth of young adults.
  • Strong organizational skills necessary to balance practical administrative trip planning with pastoral residential needs.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive personal dynamics, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and facilitate biblical conflict resolution.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical environments including indoor and outdoor settings in all weather conditions.
  • Requires walking, sitting, standing, bending, and the ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to engage in physically active work and maintain stamina throughout the day.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA's employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
