ALIVE!, is an interfaith community-based nonprofit in Alexandria, VA, providing basic needs services since 1969, has rapidly expanded its food program in response to growing food insecurity due the pandemic and economic crisis. We are looking for people who are motivated to help others, have a positive attitude, work well in a team, and take responsibility and pride and their work. Our mission is to provide basic needs services through faith and love.
Job Description
The Food Program Manager for Warehouse & Deliveries is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations concerning warehouse management, tracking inventory, communicating purchasing and inventory needs and ensuring food is prepared for delivery. This includes but is not limited to managing relationships and scheduling for pantry deliveries, working with a team to prepare food for delivery to distribution events, keep track of inventory in and out under direction, and working as part of team to ensure procurement and appropriate storage and delivery of nutritional foods. This position also helps to support food at new ALIVE! Food Centers and ensure culturally relevant nutritious foods are available to pantries and clients.
• Manages food supply and keep track of needs, incoming deliveries, and outgoing food
• Manages inventory reports and keep them current
Tracks purchases, in-Kind/donations
• Prepares pallets for distribution events as part of the food team.
• Details a purchase schedule with distribution manager and Program Operations Director and updates when orders are received.
• Manages operations including sorting and organizing pallets and preparing food for delivery for distribution events
• Prepares food and supplies for delivery to Community Partners (pantries & meal kitchens, schools and others), coordinating with Food Warehouse Assistants.
• Works with Food warehouse Assistants and volunteers to ensure safe and efficient loading/unloading trucks, packing pallets.
• Ensures sufficient variety of food is available to meet basic nutritional standards
• Works at distributions events as needed,
• Conducts orientation for volunteers on-site and in advance of events.
• Assesses and coordinates needs and deliveries to pantries each month
• Drive and deliver food around the Alexandria City to partners or to distribution events
• Manages inventory and volunteers stocking ALIVE! Food hubs
• Works to support other ALIVE! program operations as directed by Program Operations Director
• Checks volunteers are signed in and working safely and maintains safe clean workspaces
• Maintains refrigerator units and ensure they are cleaned regularly
• Assists with the maintenance of trucks
• Ensure bags are prepared for grocery distribution and student/weekend back-pack programs
• Works collaboratively to ensure food is available for home delivery and quarantine programs
• Maintains warehouse equipment and ensure equipment is in good and safe operating condition
• Works closely with Food Distribution Manager, Volunteer Manager, and Food Warehouse Assistants
• Manages warehouse staffing schedule
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience working in a foodbank, event planning, restaurant, logistics, grocery retailer or related operation is helpful. Should be proficient in MS office applications, particularly, outlook, teams, excel and word. Good written and verbal communication and ability to connect and work with a diverse group of individuals and volunteers and clients. Bilingual a plus. Ability to lift at least 60 lbs and handle repetitive physical tasks is important. Current clean driving record, and ability to drive a 16 foot box truck is required. Ability to operate a pallet jack is helpful.
